Cell phones?

Hi all, I am deep in the last minute trip planning for STJ (leaving in 2 weeks-YEA!). Still working on the fishing charter ...They all seem to be licsensed for 6 people and we have 7...(Any advice would be appreciated! We would hate to leave someone out).

I was wondering if anyone knew if you could buy a pre-paid SIM card for cell phones in STJ or STT? My phone company said it will cost $4.50/min if we could not find one...

Again, thanks! Julie

I believe you can buy them at The Mail Center here on STJ - that is on the second floor of The Marketplace where Starfish is located.

Just saw the commercial where the two people keep going to different beaches until their cell phone says 'No Service'. Smart people. Better to soak up the beauty all around you - the world will wait.

Thanks for all the help :D My friend is leaving her kids at home and will be away from them for the first time so she wants them to be able to reach her... I personally plan to keep my cell phone off the entire time!!! Can't wait!! It is 12 degrees here today...

Most of the villas I've stayed in hav had answering machines call your management company and ask if it does if it does get the number and have the kids call and leave a message.

We have Sprint. We had great reception in Cruz Bay and out at Miss Lucy's. Didn't try them at the beaches or other more remote locations. After all, we were on VACATION!!! We have a plan with no roaming fees and were not charged any extra fees or minutes.

I have a big family that I like to check in with every couple of days while we're on St. John and this is our trick that has worked really well.
I find out the phone number of the villa from the rental company before we go. I give the number to my family, then they call me at the villa in the later evenings when we're usually back in.
They use 10-10-987 and the call is 4 cents a minute and 53 cents to connect. It ends up being a great price. You can see the details at www.10-10-987.com .
This works for Eastern Europe, Canada, and lots of Caribbean countries, including the BVI. Our cell phone with Sprint worked somewhat in Cruz Bay but really sucked at our villa in Chocolate Hole most of the time. When it did work it ended up being charged as an international call.
Hope this helps. 8)

Is jdubb there? Did you get our post to your Siempre Azul post? If not, we're from Alaska and we go to STJ in two weeks from yesterday. Last time I accidentally posted twice. Duh. sorry.
