You would still have to fly or ferry to St. Thomas, and then get the ferry to St. John...

Thanks Anthony. I just found the ferry schedule for St. Croix to St. Thomas, and with the cost and times, the savings is nil.

KT - This has to be a first - airfare is usually more to STX than to STT, at least from here (ORD). You wouldn't really want to be on that ferry anyway. The crossing from STX to STT is about 90 minutes and is very often rough - they call the ferry the "barf barge" and they're not kidding. Returning from STT to STX is often a lot smoother but the seaplane is definitely the way to go.

For some reason the STX fares are cheaper out of Houston. Right now everything for June/July to STT is running well over $600 pp after taxes and fees. Last December I got roundtrip for about $430 pp for June travel. Us Houstonians just don't get cheap flights to STT like some of the major hubs on the East Coast.
The "barf barge" doesn't sound like a good option, and the fare, or seaplane fare would kill all the savings.
Just going to bide my time and wait for a better deal in order to take the whole family.

Or better yet, take the family to St. Croix!

I had a buddy ( to hungover to sail with us ) take the ferry in on a Saturday in November from STX to STT. It was the Belmar Princess from NJ..
That cracked me up.
The ferry people said they run it on the weekends and to call to verify the times.
It costs him $50 bucks to come across and has A/C.
