Local reporting called it a suicide

Suicide can happen that way. I read how she was found and I know of someone that did it the same way.
It's a shame.

The woman's family and friends said the husband was abusive and the marriage was in trouble. The woman was a vet and attending a conference at the Westin. I hardly think she would go on vacation/conference to kill herself. I believe the husband would do his wife in and make it look like suicide. I just think it deserves a second look.
Look at the woman in Florida who hired an undercover cop to kill her husband. The best part was when the husband walked in during her interrogation.. She wanted to hug him! People are CRAZY!

Not disagreeing, just commenting on what the local papers said.[/list]

Interesting. I also think it needs another look. Is it possible that someone who wants to murder his wife would go to an island where there are reports of police doing a less than thorough job. I don't know--but it is a little fishy.

Hi
I am new to the forum. But this top bothers me. I saw the article. He has his hand around her wrist in their WEDDING PHOTO!! This guy is a controlling person. I DOUBT this was a suicide. I was married to an abusive man for 7 years!!! Not saying a woman will not commit suicide by hanging, BUT this is not the typical method of suicide for women.
just my 2 cents!!

I slipped and fell in a hotel shower once. I grabbed at the shower curtain as I fell over the edge of the tub and the whole thing, including the bar, came down on top of me. I doubt that a shower curtain bar would be strong enough to support someone trying to hang themself. I wonder if the shower curtain rods at the Westin are like super secured and screwed into the wall or something?

It does look a bit fishy. I agree, what shower curtain rod is going to support someone, even if they are quite petite, long enough for them to lose consciousness?

Somebody snapped, that's for sure.

I think most of the shower rods at the Westin are those arched style that curve away from the tub.I think they are well secured into the walls but I still doubt the ability to hold the weight of even a very small adult.

Massachusetts Woman Hangs Herself in Room at Westin Resort and Villas
Written by Jaime Elliott

A St. John vacation ended in tragedy for a Massachusetts couple who stayed at the Westin Resort and Villas in early November.
An apparent attempted suicide was reported at the resort on Tuesday night, November 3, around 11 p.m., according to V.I. Police Department spokesperson Melody Rames.
A woman, who apparently hanged herself in a hotel room bathroom at the Westin, later died at R.L. Schneider Hospital on St. Thomas, according to Rames.
While VIPD officials were awaiting the results of an autopsy to verify the cause of death, police were investigating the matter as an apparent suicide.
The Massachusetts couple had been arguing earlier in the evening in their hotel room when the wife went into the bathroom, Rames explained.
“The husband indicated that he and his wife were involved in an argument and they were having personal problems within the marriage,” said the VIPD spokesperson. “I guess they had been arguing all night and the wife went into the bathroom and some time a little later he went to check on her, but the door was locked.”
After the husband called out to his wife without getting a response, he phoned the front desk, Rames explained.
“Resort officials opened the door and found the woman had hanged herself,” said Rames.
First responders gave the woman CPR and she was transported to Myrah Keating Smith Community Health Center, at which point she was still alive.
“At that time the woman was in critical condition with a weak pulse,” said Rames. “She was then transported to R.L. Schneider Hospital on St. Thomas where she later died. The cause of death will be determined through an autopsy.”
Rames did not know the woman’s age, but the husband was 47-years-old, according to the VIPD spokesperson. VIPD officials were continuing their investigation last week.

I don't know what type of shower rods they have at the Westin, but my best friend's mom hung herself on one while we were in college, so, unfortunately, they work.
This story, however, sounds a bit fishy to me.
