We will be on STJ in a few weeks. My boyfriend is still recuperating from his hamstring reattachment surgery so our activities need to be scaled back. We would like to go over to Jost for the day but do not want to take the snorkel type charters. What is the easiest way to go over?

By boat (sorry I could not resist
)
You can take the public ferry - $60.00 per person r/t includes customs - leaves at 8:30am (I think) and returns around 3pm (again I think) It gives you approx 5 - 6 hours on Jost.
I can't remember what days it runs but I think it is 5 days per week - but I have not checked the schedule for a few months now so do check but I am sure someone will post correctly - or I'll find it and post later.

Here is the link to the ferry schedules. So much more convenient now that it runs 5 days a week. We used to be limited to Fri/Sat/Sun which was difficult because we usually travel on Saturday.

We have done this several times and it is an economical way to get to Jost. Like Pia said, you will have 5-6 hours there. Probably closer to 5. You can take a taxi for $5pp each way over to White Bay. Arrange for a pick up back to the ferry when you get dropped off.

We recently did the public ferry from Cruz Bay to Jost and it was great - while it may seem pricey, its very convenient and we were the first ones there in the morning - soggy dollar bar welcomed us with open arms! You'll be fine! Have fun!
Also, just to add, I don't believe Jost is known for snorkeling if thats what you plan on doing - either way, Jost has some great beaches and bars to hang out!
