I really don't know what it is. I posted about it a while back. The story is I was bending down at the diner to touch it and one of the star points on top fell into my cover-up pocket. When I got home to do laundry I found it and stuck it in some dirt. It grew like crazy, it's gotten lots more water here than on STJ because it stays outside and the rain hits it. I put it in the garage during the cold months and then transfer it out again in the spring. I had hoped Ruth, Pia or another island person could tell me what it is. If anyone would like a few of the "stars" I'll continue Margo's seed exchange - she's sending me some japanese maple seeds from her tree. Technically, I know not to bring anything like this back from STJ but it happened and I potted it!

I recognize that plant, but for the life of me, I don't know its name. I'll see if I can ID it at the nursery this weekend.

I'd love to see if I could grow one... send me a star! :)

Won't it be hilarious when hundreds of people stop to admire the mother plants of Greyhoundmom's Star Seed Plants at the Donkey Diner? They won't know what to think!

Bryophyllum tubiflorum (synonym Kalanchoe tubiflora) mother-of-thousands, chandelier plant. Native to Africa, escaping from gardens in the West Indies and the drier parts of Hawaii. Close cousin to love-leaf (Bryophyllum pinatum)which also makes plantlets on the leaves;--( called love- leaf because if you write your beloved's name on the leaf, and it sprouts, your love is assured. Fail-safe.)
