Hi there, we are staying over Christmas for the first time - we usually go during the off-season. Does anyone know if there will be restaurants/grocery open on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day? Also, I read somewhere that the water is cloudy for snorkeling at that time of year - is that true? What temps can we expect for day and night? Thanks for your help! Counting the days now !- Sara

We have been there twice over Christmas. I think the reason you are being told that it is cloudy is because of the Christmas winds or "swells". I have been told that normally it is not rough. I think there were a couple of places that it was worked up and cloudy but that was really infrequent. We were told if one end of St. John is wavy to go to the other side. That has worked well for us.

I am not sure what is closed or what is open over Christmas. I felt like everything was open but that may be just because where we wanted to go was open. Really, it is such a busy time for business owners I bet many of them make it work and stay open.

I am sure others will have much more insight than me.

We loved being their over the holidays. ENJOY!

Restaurants are open Christmas Eve - do make a reservation :) I am sure some will be open Christmas Day but as we never go to a restaurant on Christmas Day I'm not sure which ones. Starfish is open 365 days per year (so they advertise)

We are there almost every year over the holidays....we are always there the week before Christmas (week 50 at the Westin) and every other year stay on through Christmas at a villa. It's a busy time on the island but fun!

Most restaurants are open...higher end (Zozo's , Asolare) may have 2 defined seatings and you definitely need to make a reservation -- possibly before you are on island--- or a week ahead to have your choice of place and time!

Often, we go out on the holiday eve and eat all the leftovers on the holiday day......

For all things over the holiday weeks...plan ahead!

Bring a sweater, shawl or light jacket for the evenings.....the days are wonderful but it may be cool (for STJ) in the evening (when we were there in June I never needed a wrap) but did most nights in December.)

Where are you staying?

Let me know if you have more questions! Hope to see you at the Beach Bar!
