well were considering checking in our back pack beach chairs this year; wondering if anyone else has done this?

the reason why is they are like back packs; you can swing them over your shoulder while your hiking.

We've taken beach chairs twice with us. There's alot of beaches that we go to that don't rent chairs.

They were regular run of the mill beach chairs, 3 position. We just tied them together, put a tag on them and off they came on the baggage carousal.

When we left, we left them for friends once and the other time, we left them for the owner of the unit we were renting.

I tried to purchased them on St. John in October and everyone was out of them. The hardware store said it would be another 3 weeks or more until they got them. I bet the K-Mart on St. Thomas would have them, but I was not about to go back over there. We stayed at the Westin and rented them for $35 each for the week. If you are staying at a villa, you may want to find out what it comes with and avoid this. To bring them on the plane may cost more than they are worth.

Wow, I bet that chair would fit in my dive gear bag and it is on sale. I may have to get two of those.

We do exactly like what Diane does, we have Kelsyus backpack chairs (love 'em) and put in a large rolling duffel.

The duffel is for the chairs, our snorkel bag and then we pile in our beach shoes and beach stuff. It is perfect!

Don't most villas have them for your use? We have stayed at Gallows and they had one per person to take to the beaches. This time we will be staying at Bay House- and they have them as well.

The backpack ones are really great for hikes. I do think most villas have the standard beach chairs.

We've always found that our villa provided beach chairs but usually they are pretty shot and IMHO not that easy to carry. We love our Kelsyus backpack chairs http://www.everywherechair.com/kel-rbc.html . They are definitely worth the trouble packing down there.

The everywhere chair is described as "reclining", is it always in the reclined position or can it be upright also . ? Thanks Laurie

I really don't get the 'reclining' thing about this chair. For me it doesn't do anything other than sit on the beach like a chair should. If it's supposed to recline, I have yet to know how this is done . It just behaves like a chair should behave. I like that it has a cup holder though.

We were just talking about this topic yesterday, so I read this thread with interest. When we stayed on Virgin Gorda, we found the chairs provided with our rental to be very uncomfortable. Also, they were just for use at their beach, so we couldn't take them to other beaches. So I was musing aloud whether it would be too expensive to take our own little beach chairs since we couldn't find any to purchase on VG.

When we stayed at Concordia on St John, there were no beach chairs, so we rented from Crabby's in Coral Bay. He had some nice chairs for a decent price. Just needed them for a few days before we moved into a villa that had chairs.

It does recline. Sometimes if the arms/straps are not in the proper position and slid as far down as they go (on the vertical bars in the back) , it won't do it.

It doesn't turn into a bed or anything, but there is a definite difference between the two positions.
