Hi all..
We usually book group trips but are thinking of heading to St. John just the hubby and I. Would like a 1 or 2 BR villa with pool that is nice and also centrally located..Anyone have experience with one? Thanks for the info!

silly,
until this summer always stayed on west end for sunsets but ventured out toward coral bay this summer on mt bordeaux and loved the central location and all else. stayed at asa bueno which is larger but good 2 person rates, bord. breeze is nearby as is summerwind which is 4 bedroom.
we looked at private homes viewtiful on mamey peak. she's older and a lot of steps between great room and pool/bedroom deck but has a super location and absolute drop dead views over coral bay and north toward jvd and sir francis drake sound. we would have stayed there but another couple came along at last minute and casa bueno hit the rental market. she's on watch list for next trip with just bride. i also like looks of orion's hill and winsome house on ajax peak.
good luck,
papabou

What papabou just said. I've been raving about the Bordeaux Mtn location for ages and I'm glad that others agree. If I were planning a trip with just hubby and myself the the houses on the top of my list would be Casa Bueno, Summer Wind and Bordeaux Breeze ...probably in that order. There's another house up that way called Coral Oasis that looks very nice to me but they'd have to give me a discounted price because I think their price is a bit high. I'm not familiar with any of the houses up on Ajax Peak and I'm sure the views from up there are fabulous. My guess is that's it's pretty windy up there too. I seem to remember a report about Orion's Hill a while back. I don't believe Winsome House has AC.

We stayed at Sea Cruz (Island Getaways)in June and will return there in December. It is on Contant (close, but still removed from Cruz Bay), has a lovely pool and is perfect for two people. It has a spectacular view. See my villa review from our June trip.

My wife and I are more sunset people than sunrise, so we like the Cruz Bay area. Something about watching the sunset with drink in hand is very peaceful.
2 years ago stayed at Perelandra, really enjoyed it and has quite a few reviews. Next year we have Island Time reserved, good reviews and looks like amazing views. Good Luck.

We are leaving in a few days and staying at a new villa - Apito which is centrally located with a pool. It is a two bedroom with the second bedroom only acessable from the outside which is nice if you want privacy from your other company.
It looks wonderful and nicely priced. We are renting through Viva and have been wonderful to deal with. Will write a review when we get back!

I had seen Island Horizons that looked pretty nice and also Anchorage Aweigh, although wondering if that one's views are limited to way up in the bay?

The most centrally located villa we've stayed in is Orion's Hill, that's a whole lotta house for the money and the views are killer up there. If ya happen to choose her, just PM me and I can give ya all the details. Someone else rents her other than Carribbean Villas but I can't remember who so ya could get away from the 5% service charge and remember ya can always ask if ya can get a better deal, lots will deal with ya in this economy.

For great sunsets, you can't beat the view out on Maria Bluff. We stayed at Villa Belvedere last year right up on the cliff above the water. Sunsets are amazing, and St. Thomas at night shimmers. It's 3 bedrooms, but it was just my husband and me. We were able to stay in the bedroom right above the living and dining room. The other two bedrooms were in another pod. It rents through Destination St. John. Highly recommend it!

We stayed at Island Horizons and their Summer rate is right where your budget lies.
It was fabulous! You will need a 4 wheel drive vehicle as the driveway is very steep (but you get used to is quickly).
Great views. Very nice interior. Excellent pool area. Air Conditioned. Highly recommended.
Good Luck! Have Fun!
