Day to arrive ?

Hi everyone,

I need your help again, please!
I am about ready to reserve our STJ villa and I remember reading that we should avoid arriving and leaving on days that the cruise ships port in St. Thomas because the airports/customs are crazy on those days. We will be traveling with our 2 kids and that is crazy enough at the airports! Is arriving and leaving on a Saturday in June a good idea or would another day be better?
Thank you again for all the great advice. I really appreciate it!

I don't know that the STT airport is affected as much by cruise ship traffic as other places are that are primary start/end locations for cruises, like San Juan.

That being said, weekends are probably the busiest airport days, if you have the option of arriving and departing on any other day, I'd try to do that.

Cruise ships have nothing to do with departure as they do not clear Customs and are nowhere near the airport. You may have a bit more traffic in CA on your way to the airport but it may only add about 10 mins to your travel time and none if you take the CA ferry. The busiest days to leave are Saturday and Sunday being typical villa rental turnover days :)

It's been our experience that Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday travel days are best. Avoid Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays. Saturday and Sundays are the worst travel days IMHO.

So...........after all this time, which villa did you finally decide on?

Thanks for the advice augie, Pia and Diana2,

I will try to avoid traveling Saturday, Sunday and Monday! I know June is suppose to be low season on island but the airports here may be busy!

As to what villa we decided on...well I hope that is decided tonight! I had finally narrowed it down to 3 and called on them today to check availability and rates...Casa Bueno, Luminaria and Sol Inclination. All 3 on different parts of the island, with different rates and amenities. I am now turning it over to hubby and the kids for the final decision!

Thanks again!

I have only ever arrived and departed on Saturday (have done 4 of those Saturdays so far). I have never found the airport to resemble anything I would call "hectic". In other words, don't let the weekend deter you. I do, however, always hire a porter and that saves a lot of stress and gets you to the front of the line.
