If we take the ferry into Cruz Bay is it a walkable distance (how far / how long) to get to Solomon? We won't have a car. Or where would we ask a taxi to drop us off?

The pics I've seen posted are so beautiful I think I'd like to find this beach next trip.

Taxi's can be found just off the ferry dock. Acess to Solomon is by foot from the Caneel parking lot ( which is currently closed for October), or from the trailhead behind the National Parks Building in Cruz Bay. Ive never done the hike so Im sure someone else will weigh in on the distance.

It is a fairly easy 1 mile hike around Lind Point from Cruz Bay. The trail head is, as the previous poster said behind the National Park Service building. When you arrive on the ferry turn left and follow the shoreline till you see it. Unlike most of the other north shore beaches, you must walk to Solomon. A taxi cannot drop you off there. It is a beautiful beach.

There are 3 ways to hike to Salomon. We've done all 3 and the hike from Cruz Bay is probably the easiest so you definitely don't need a taxi. It's less than a 5 minute walk from the people ferry to the trail head.

Yep we did it our last trip two days in a row. About a twenty to thirty minute easy hike. Ya won't be dissappointed. Snorkel the right side at the end were the rocks are if your into that it's really good.

If you hike to Solomon Beach in the morning it should be a breeze! We hiked it a few weeks ago at 3 p.m. and it was H-O-T!! Good thing we could cool off in the beautiful ocean once we arrived!

On your way to the trailhead you will find Mongoose Junction across the street from the NPS building. The Deli Grotto is a great place to pick up a sandwich for a Salomon lunch.

My other hope for the next trip is Honeymoon beach too. Would we take a taxi to Caneel and then walk to Honeymoon?

We've done this hike all 3 ways and prefer the walk in from Caneel. I told DH in June that the next time I go to Solomon it's going to be by dinghy . As I get older I'm enjoying the hike less and less. Actually hiking to the beach isn't so bad....it's the hike out that I least enjoy. Last trip my favorite beach was Gibney/Oppenheimer.

Just don't walk down the road! Connie and her husband did that last year and its not a good idea. Plus its a lot steeper. The lower trail has a moderate climb around the point. Sweet Christine hates anything steep and did okay on this one.

I've had a cab drop me at Caneel, hiked in to Solomon (it's a short hike - maybe 10-15 minutes)

Then after soaking up Solomon for an afternoon I hiked the trail in to Cruz Bay. I think it's maybe a 30-minute hike (at the most) from Solomon in to town.

You can do both in one day if you have time, they are just up the trail from each other.

We often hike from town to Soloman, stay a couple hours and then walk over to Honeymoon and stay a while there. Then we walk to Caneel and take a taxi back back to town. It is definitely doable in a day. You can get a nice snack or drink at Caneel (pricey though).

Just be sure of the trail as sometimes people mess with the signs. I would check a trail map so you kind of have an idea of where you need to be going.
You wont' get real lost, but you might end up having to backtrack.

FYI... Salomon feels a little more private than Honeymoon -- even though they're right next to each other. Last fall, we went to Honeymoon twice and were joined each day by no fewer than 3 snorkel tours and countless Cruisers walking over from Caneel. They seem to stay over by Honeymoon more and away from Salomon. I don't mind sharing beach space, but when they all come at once, it's a bit much.
