Vodka Salute!

For the southern gals and guys out there (and I know you're there!), a recommendation for vodka. I absolutely loathe vodka and it has never been on my list of what I want to drink. If I'm going to have a drink it's usually Knob Creek neat. I am a wine purist and love to try different wines from around the world. But.....I have found a vodka that I think deserves merit. It is called Firefly Sweet Tea Vodka. If you like sweet tea (I drink unsweetened as a general rule) and you like vodka, this is an amazing blend. It is manufactured by a winery on Wadmalaw Island, SC and they are known for their muscadine wines (which I'm not fond of because of the sweetness). We toured the winery about 3 years ago and they gave us a taste of something they were experimenting with (Firefly). It has taken off big in the south. If you can find it, please give it a try as it is excellent over ice and quite addictive! It makes you not go to the gym with your girlfriend but come home to drink Firefly and make chicken purlough instead! It's fun to cook when you are sipping!

I just saw that stuff on the counter at checkout at a little liquor store on the WV/MD border and picked it up not knowing what it was. I did not buy it , but it caught my eye. Sounds interesting! Thanks for the heads up!

Jan,Jan... you silly SC Gurl!...that's stuff been the bomb up here in "upper carolina" for over a year now!...I think they have something like 5 or 6 favors now of Firefly ice tea "tater juice"....The Granny's and I discovered it last year... I heard that Smirnoff had bought them out..lucky dawgs!... As we say around here, "They sure do think alot of their $hit!"..The price seems to have increased in accordance with their popularity... henceforth .. the immitators!..."Sweet Carolina" and our all time favorite "Jeremiah Weed"...Hell, I even got a coupon for $5.00 off a fifth the last time I was in the alphabet store!.What's the world coming too?!

.. here's how we enjoy our weed..depending on how bad a day its been...Tall Glass...lotsa' ice....a snort or two of JW,(optional extra snort of the unflavored tater juice to send the bad day jumbies on their way!), arizonia diet ice tea and a splash of lemonade...cuts the sweetness a bit...
mighty tasty....now give me that chicken purlough recipe!

That sounds cool- I have lost my taste for beer lately and get tired of wine. This might be a good one for me!

I got that far and then passed out into a diabetic coma.
No matter how long I live in the South, I doubt I'll EVER understand or like "sweetah". I prefer my vodka after it's steeped for a few weeks in some of my home-grown habanero peppers.
Typical southern scene:
"I'll have the iced tea...unsweetened"
"What exit?"

Pipanale-
How do you do that with the peppers? We have a habernero plant that is producing out the wazoo- we really need some more recipes for it! It must have 50 flowers on it right now.

Thats funny I read this and thought of Boats and Tater Juice and she replyed. Andy and I discovered Vodka went good with tea a few trips back in St John. We also discovered it went good with tea and lemonade as KY said. Heck we think it goes good with just about anything for that matter

BoatsRUs, I know, I'm such a silly SC Gurl! Honestly, when we toured the winery, we tasted it but thought, way too sweet. I have a girlfriend who keeps bringing it over and we lose our well-intended direction! Pipinale, S/O says, vodka and peppers? How can that be and what does it taste like? Does it have a kick from the peppers. Looks like we'll be on island the same time next summer so we need to get together so you can explain the process! If I'm not drinking Knob Creek neat I'm up for a little Booker's. The chicken purlough is an old southern family thing....basically I cook crockpot chicken, slice it up, boil 4 eggs, sautee onion, celery and fresh garlic. Cook 2 cups of rice with the above, simmer for about 25 minutes. It's more like a bog, don't let it get too dry. One of those simple, satisfying cold night meals.
