Howdy, that one is from 2006. Some of the prices are lower, some higher. I'll try to scan and post our Cost U Less and grocery receipts from the Halloween Trip. We haven't been doing the enormous shopping trip for the last few trips, but we have a group of newbies this time.

Thanks. That would be great. we are planning our April trip with my parents and friends. Both have never been to St. John.

One of the things that makes a +/- $40 difference is whether the maids clean out every last condiment. Caribbean Villas' policy seems to be to dispose of everything. We've gotten houses from VIVA that we very stocked, with good booze too.

The biggest cost savings for us is to get beverages at Cost U Less on STT. If you have a Diet Coke addict on the trip this could save you $30 on that alone.

Check out this ad good through 10/13 - $21 cases of Presidente and 3 cases of 24 count bottled water for $10. 2/$4 Ceres juices (awesome blender bait). Even on sale, Kellog's Corn Flakes are $4.88 for a 12 oz box. Priced by volume, not weight.

to put my 2 cents in here. After reading all the posts here @ sending & bringing down food etc. When go to fast food places, been taking the ketchup,mayo,mustard,S&P pkgs,couple at a time, to bring down. Thought this would be easier than trying to send down plastic bottles of them. will put them in zip locks so if "explode" won't be too bad.

Just an idea, if anyone thinks there might be a prob in doing this, appreciate the heads up.

I can provide some updated prices (from June '09), since my bag of receipts from our trip fell out of a cookbook I was using last night. It’s more expensive than home for sure, but some things are more reasonable than others. Examples from Starfish Market:

French bread: on sale for $1.95
Sesame seed crackers: $5.29
Onions: .99/lb.
Raisin bread: $5.99
Bagged salad greens: $6.99
Orange juice (half gallon): $7.09
Red grapes: $4.19/lb.
Barilla pasta: $2.69/box
Cilantro: $1.49/bunch
Whole pineapple: $8.09
Mint: $3.99/bunch
Wheat thins: $5.95
Sour cream (small): $3.29
Jasmine rice: $5.39
4 gallons of water: $6
Tilamook cheddar (8 oz): $8.19
Gallon-sized ziploc bags: $5.99
Limes: 25 cents each
Summer squash: $3.49/lb.
Grape tomatoes: $3.79/pint
Haagen Daz ice cream: $9.99/pint (!!!)

Good to see those prices Becky. A tough call whether it pays to bring a box of dry goods. I think it does for us since we pay to the airlines either nothing or $15 for an extra box. And we fill full of crackers, granola bars, nuts, pasta, rice, coffee sunscreen, etc...I usually stock up on most of that stuff when it is on sale, so it can be very cheap.

But over $15 for a box, that is when it becomes iffy.

Then again, for me, it kind of gives me heart palpitations on vacation to pay so much for groceries. It doesn't seem as painful, even if it breaks even in the end.
