I was cleaning out some drawers today and I found the family tree that my uncle sent me in 1997! I completely forgot that I had it!

As it turns out, Linne, not only are you a possible cousin of mine, Maggy, you may be too!

My great grandfather on my father's side was Danish and my great grandmother, his wife, was from Sweden! I don't know what cities, except that my grandfather was born at Rudkoibing, Langeland, Denmark.

I just thought this was interesting. :D

Hi cousin Margo!

How interesting that you have found your family tree.

Aren’t you curious to know more about your family?

Here you can find some information about Langeland, which means “Long Land”. It’s a long and narrow island, and many of the small towns have funny names.

The biggest town Rudkoebing is very similar Aereskoebing, which I have told about in a topic:

The two islands are very close to each other, and in old days most of the men there were sailors.
So perhaps it was your “sailorgene”, which did that you enjoyed your catamarantrip so much! :D

Hi Linne!

Thanks for the links! I remember reading your trip report and seeing the pictures of Aereskoebing. Such a cute town!

Maybe "sailor genes" are in my blood, but I'm thinking this "island" obsession I have must also be my grandfather's fault! He moved from an island in Denmark to an island in Washington called Vashon!

Maybe I need to take this info a little further? I wonder if I could find any "Mogensen's" on Langeland? :D

Hi again!

Mogensen is a common name in Denmark. Many names in Denmark end with a "sen". It's a heritage from the old days when it meant " the son of Mogens".

I have just looked in the telephone book. There is 5 persons with the last name "Mogensen" on Langeland. 3 of them live in Rudkoebing. So perhaps you have a closer family there.
