This is worth checking out: www.osc.state.ny.us
It's the site for the Comptrollers Office. You click on Unclaimed Funds, type in a name and can find out if anyone has turned over abandoned property to The State.

I just got a check today which will easily cover a nice villa for 2 next summer Whooo Hoooo :-)

Filling out the form took 30 seconds!

Happy Hunting

PS:

Im sure most states have a simialr set up.

Yes, all states have this. All companies are supposed to turn over abandoned property to the state. So much of this is never claimed that the states profit from it and that is why they require it. Items range from bank lock boxes that the bank can not find the owner to a deposit you put up years ago for electricity and they did not have a forwarding address. I found a friends abandonded 401K from a company he had left years ago and it was worth several thousand. I got about $40 from AT&T on a deposit for phone service I hooked up back when I was in school. You never know what you will find. You should even look up the company you work for. I find company money all the time. :)
