I just saw Mrs Obama...

She arrived a few hours ago in Copenhagen, and our office here at the airport, just happens to be right above the VIP exit. Everyone stood in the window and wanted to have a look.

She was in a car surrounded by lots of police cars and motorcycles, but still she waved at us.

I don't intend to start a political discussion. It was just fun to have seen her :D .

Clearly I spend too much time on Facebook because I was trying to give this a thumbs up ;-) Cool indeed.

This is Mayor Daley's pet project, and everything he gets his hands on is full of corruption and only lines the pockets of his cronies. The city is in serious financial hardship and does not need the debt that the Olympics would bring. Montreal spent 30 years paying off its Olympics debt. Chicagoans took to filling potholes themselves this winter because the city said it couldn't afford it, yet the city can afford billions in costs related to the Olympics? Daley just wants the notoriety and ego boost that the games would bring him. The Olympic Games would become part of dirty Chicago politics.

Even the majority of Chicago residents aren't backing the games, and these are the same people who vote Daley into office again and again:

Additionally, the governor of Illinois is currently trying to pass a 50% state income tax increase. He says it is necessary for the state to run. Yet the state legislature has guaranteed a quarter billion in state funding for the Olympics. The governor is threatening that we can't keep the lights on in state government without a massive tax increase yet there's miraculously money for the Olympics?

 Oops, looks like the political wave arrived before me...

Maggy, I am glad that you shared your experience of seeing America's First Lady in your country, and I am glad that you enjoyed those moments.

During the campaign, I had the opportunity to see Mrs. Obama close up (but not personal). She was charming with a beautiful smile that looked very natural and sincere as did her waves of acknowledgment to those looking on.

Edited: I guess that "in your country" should read "in Denmark". :?

Kind of like the Queen!
--- No, no... nothing like the queen.

Having seen Queen Elizabeth II more or less up close, I'd have to agree that there are few similarities between her and the First Lady. I mean, we could start with the hats and work downward.

I think the Obamas are some of the coolest people in the White House in a long time...hands down.

BTW I ain't stuck on one party...I'll vote for the better candidate, regardless.

Thanks for reporting, glad you thought it was fun to see her. I see they made a big deal over her outfit again on tv. (imo - ridiculous!) How about Oprah - did you see her?

I am also rooting for Rio. We just hosted an Olympics a few years ago (the Salt Lake Games that were run flawlessly by Mitt Romney)...I think it's unfair to the rest of our world partners that we, the big bad evil Americans who are arrogant, and often derisive, should host yet another Games. We are exceptional in no way, other than in our lack of exceptionalism. We have caused the world at large (our partners) only harm.

Besides, kids are beating other kids to death with 2x4's in that city (clearly Bush's fault...ahem, clearly.). I'm not sure that will project a positive image of peace and solidarity to our partners around the world.

Go Rio.

Oh and Teresa...Haven't you heard? Debt is the new black. It is en vogue, as it were. Biden says we in fact need more of it. Maybe this is all part of the plan.

Oh where have you gone, John F. Kennedy?
