We've been to STT/STJ 6 years in a row. This last summer, we took our 4 children (and ourselves) on a cruise. Had a GREAT time, but spend way too much $$$ on the summer vacation.
So - I'm thinking that I already spent our Winter "husband and wife" vacations allocation this summer.
PLEASE convince me that I should abandon common sense, not worry about the $3,500 going into the retirment account, and just "GO FOR IT" and book our standard February winter husband-and-wife vacation retreat!
Pile it on - make me feel guilty - convince me!!!

If the Feb. trip is husband and wife, sans kids, you must do it.
Marcia and I celebrate our anniversary every year by leaving the kids behind and reconnecting in STJ. Gotta do it, no matter what. Twenty years from now, you won't remember the money, you'll remember the time together.
Do it.

I am spending my savings account on a 2 week trip to Italy with my youngest daughter.
But I highly recommend that you refer to Suzie Orman for your financial advice.

You should just go! My husband and I went in May (27th Anniversary trip) and yes, we could have used the money more wisely for retirement or home improvements, but the time that we had and the memories that we share are absolutely priceless and I wouldn't trade them for anything!!!!!

By all means- do it NOW. While you are able. Who knows what the future holds.

You know you want to do it.
You won't be able to NOT do it.
So, just do it!!

If you can do it, DO IT! (Hey Connie~great minds think alike!)
If you want to save some $$, try to wait for low season in April and eat lots of PB&J! Anything tastes great in paradise~

I say go for it. My husband and I go away every single year by ourselves....NO KIDS. You guys need time to be husband/wife again, and not just mom and dad. While saving for retirement and home improvements are very important.....your marriage is WAY more important. We are in need on new windows here, but my trip for December 6-16 is all booked and PAID for IN FULL!!!!! That was our priority;)

We had the same issue. So we started trying to find cheaper ways to do a STJ vacation. We passed up our usual villa for Cruz Views (Rick G recommended) d saved 2/3 of that cost. Found cheap airfares, asked for and received a discount from Courtesy Car Rental, etc. We will eat cheaper all week and don't need more souvenirs. It CAN be done and we will be in STJ, which is all that matters after all. Please go for it!

A few quotes that have followed me for the last few years I would like to share with you:
"You can always re-take a class but never re-take a party"
"In ten years time what are you going to remember?"
Cheers,
Hope to see you soon

Oh THANK YOU - you guys are really good at this! I'm going to print this thread and keep it with me! I know resistance is nearly futile - I just can't imagine going all Winter without my Virgin Islands "fix".

Oh no, nothing comes between this husband and wife and their vacations alone together! Surely you can sell something? Go cheaper?
