Sweet Christine and I are booked on $277 US Air tix out of DCA for 10/28-11/5. We are bringing three newbies with us. But, these are homebrewers that we have traveled and camped with us extensively - battle hardened veterans. No whiners!

Our first choice villa fell through. We are on the hunt for a good deal on a 3 bedroom villa within a 10 minute drive from Cruz Bay (newbie factor, otherwise we would be in Coral Bay), western exposure and pool preferred.

See ya in Love City!

Cheers, Rick

Baptism by fire. Go rent Blue Skies. With both houses you have 4 BR. And if the lack of water, refrigeration and termite infestation doesn't kill them, it will only make them stronger.

CV is offering 20% off of Second Wind in Reef Bay. through early Dec. Stretches your 10 min drive into Cruz Bay to about 15 but it is a nice quiet neighborhood.

Vacation Vistas has most of their properties discounted right now. The site says through 10/30 but maybe you could work out a deal for your full stay. Up to 35% off.

We stayed at Sundance rented through Cloud 9 and it was very affordable. Had a pool and a hot tub. We used both frequently. It had three bedrooms (king beds) that I thought were mostly even with their own bathrooms. The view wasn't perfect, but I loved being close to Cruz Bay and being able to hear the waves on Hart Bay.
It's a very basic villa, a/c throughout, great washer and dryer/beach towels and chairs etc.

I think newbies would be fine in Coral Bay too. We were all newbies (group of 10) and stayed in Coral Bay and didn't mind not being near town. Maybe because we had kids with us so we didn't mind about fewer restaurant/bar options... but we had plenty to do (and eat and drink!) in Coral Bay. (Or is it the sunset factor?)

And way to jump on that great airfare! Amazing!

We are newbies and we are staying in Coral Bay...What's the deal?

cbrund1079, a lot of newbies like to stay close to Cruz Bay for a couple of reasons. I think one of the biggest is that in general, the roads to Cruz Bay villas are paved and don't have switchbacks. Some of the roads to the homes on the Coral Bay side can be...let's just say, an adventure! Also, many of the restaurants and bars, and most of the gift shopping, are located in Cruz Bay. Some people just think they will be more comfortable closer to "town."

Coral Bay is great too, don't worry! It's a little quieter, but there are still lots of places to go for food and drinks. In fact, many of my favorite restaraunts are on the Coral Bay side. Plus, I actually think a lot of the Coral Bay homes are closer to the beaches than the Cruz Bay ones. No driving through town to get to the beach=good thing!

I love both sides of the island. It just depends on what your focus is.

Not to worry cbrund :D. It's just that Coral Bay is more "remote" so you have to drive to most everything. We stayed near Coral Bay our first time and we had no problems with being in a less-populated area. Heck, it's only a 20 min. drive to Cruz Bay from Coral Bay and who even notices the time when you're looking at the scenery? I love driving on St. John! :D

Rick,

We stayed in Blue Heaven Rondevous through Viva Villas. Three bedrooms and a hot tub. Great view of Rondevous Bay. Not fancy but very clean. My wife and 12 year old daughter are very picky when it comes to where they stay and they loved it. It was very affordable.
