Hey everyone -

My husband and I have been considering building a vacation home somewhere for the last couple of years (hoping St. John someday, but it's so cost-prohibitive). Not people to rush into anything, we've done a lot of research and are really interested in doing a prefab house by a company called Deltec. I saw an article in one of the local St. John magazines about green building (and smaller building) and the article profiled a couple with the last name Greathouse who built a small round house on the island from a Deltec kit. I am wondering if anyone knows these folks b/c I'd love to ask them questions about how they handled the cistern and site prep work.

Would you do it yourself? I am in awe of the Seagrape couple than did their own (traditional construction) house.

I have worked with the modular home industry for a number of years. I remember one company in particular was trying to break into the VI market after the big hurricanes about 10 years back. I know some guys that lived on STT for a few years setting houses.

You might be able to link up with those owners thru the Friends of the VI Park. I remember the Friends did a green house tour a while back and I am pretty sure that house was on it.
