Cielo Vista

Hi, Everyone!

I just received an email today letting me know that Cielo Vista is, once again, a rental property.

My husband & I had the pleasure of staying at this beautiful villa on Gifft Hill a few years ago. It came off of the rental market for a period of time, for the private use of the owners. I was saddened to learn that, unfortunately, due to the ill health of one of the owners, it is once again available for rent.

For those wishing to check out this gorgeous villa - go to onlinevacations.com. The rates are excellent - particularly in "off season".

Anyone is welcome to send me a message, if you would like any "inside tips" on the villa.

To put it in a nutshell - we LOVED IT and would highly recommend it for 1 or 2 couples. It even has a loft area and could probably accomodate 6, if needed.

Take care all,
Sue

really? I have often checked to see if it was back on the market. That's mighty interesting Sue. I think you know I love that location and it really is affordable in my eyes. Thanks for the news.
Who did you get the email from?

A woman by the name of Denise Wright from Online Vacations in St. John. She was nice enough to notify us, as we had been previous guests of Cielo Vista. The listing is out on their website. I thought that it was very considerate, and very thoughtful, to personally email previous renters.

This villa looks very nice. Can you tell me exaclty where it is located on Gifft Hill? I am somewhat familiar with the area having stayed at Coconuts. Cielo looks like it has a different view than Coconuts, so it must be located somewhere else on Gifft. We like the Gifft Hill location as its close to town, but right off Centerline to get to beaches and Coral Bay side of island. The price is great. For sharing with a couple, its nice to have BR on opposite ends of house.
A couple questions:
- looks like no A/C in BR?
- is pool private (as in C/O private)
- is the house close to other houses so you could possibly have noise?
- how is the drive to the house - steep driveway?
thanks for the info - we're looking for a villa for next year

I haven't stayed there but I can answer a few questions. We stayed next door at Villa Capiz and we really couldn't see any of the property from where we were as Capiz has very mature landscaping.
If you know Gifft Hill this villa is closer to South Shore Rd. If you come up from South Shore, after the crazy switchback I think this this is the 3rd villa on the left side.
No driveway as you basically pull right off Gifft Hill Rd. to the parking area. So the rear of your vehicle is only just off the road.

per the web site bedrooms have AC
The two private air conditioned
bedrooms beckon you to relax, as you enjoy the
tasteful appointments and comfortable furnishings

Thanks for the info MBW. I must have missed the mention of AC on the website. I know exactly where you mean as we must have passed it many times when we came up that road with the sharp switchback and BIG pothole. Coconuts was up the hill a bit further from there, and I remember passing several villas on the way up.
For Coconuts, coming from Cruz Bay was about the same whether you went by the Westin, then up the steep road, or took Centerline, then turned onto Gifft Hill road from there. We referred to them as the "low road" (coming in from the south shore road) and the "high road" coming in from Centerline. My hubby likes the low road as he thinks its "fun" coming up that hill. I prefer the high road as the calmer route.

Response was "spot on". We drove in primarily from Centerline. Exactly correct - right next to Villa Capiz.

We stayed there in April of 2006. At that time, the owners were occupying the lower floor/basement unit. But, they were no bother at all & we had the pool and pool area all to ourselves. Complete privacy. Never heard them at all during the days or evenings. Only saw them upon our arrival and day of checkout.

If we were to rent it again. I would ask whether or not the bottom unit would be empty. I am assuming that the owners would still be keeping that living area for their sole use. So, it probably isn't an issue. But, I would probably ask the rental agency.

Yes - the best way to get there is from Centerline. Very easy/flat parking area. Just a narrow entry off the street. But, it seems that most villa's have that.

It is much higher up in elevation versus where Coconut villa's are We stayed in Perelandra this year, which was just beyond Coconut. In our opinion, we preferred the view from the higher elevation.

I believe that at the time, we were one of the first renters. The condition of the villa was excellent. All modern appliances. Beautiful architecture & woodwork. Yes - AC in both bedrooms. Lots of celing fans in the rest of the house. Gorgeous loft area, with cool lighting. Also, a fantastic upper deck for getting "closer to the stars".

Not a huge pool. But, very inviting & lovely pool area.

Oh - you asked about noise. I really don't remember it being an issue. Though I do remember my husband being a little annoyed by the "wake up" call each morning by Roosters. But, I think that that happens in most locations, anyway.

I think that I might have seen a roof top below us. But, again, it was a while ago. But, I am not remembering being bothered by any neighborhood noise. But, I couldn't attest to that since it has been so long since we visited.

I would think that it would be comparable to what people might have to say about Villa Capiz as it is within very close proximity on Gifft Hill.

I am sure that it must mention this on the website - but, be mindful that one bedroom is within the main house and accessed through the living room. The other bedroom is accessed from the OUTSIDE pool area deck. Nice that if you have another couple, you would each have your privacy. Also, of course, the bedroom that is acessed from the outside, has its own bathroom that is just as gorgeous as the one off of the main house's bedroom.

the rooftop below Villa Capiz is Rapture which is in Virgin Grande. You might be able to see that from C.V. as well.
When we were at Capiz we could hear some voices at Rapture but never saw anyone.

We stayed there in October 2007. There was some noise from the road since you were so close to it, but never to the point that it was bothersome. I was amazed that the cement trucks were navigating that switchback!

The first couple of days I tried to be conscious of how we were leaving town to avoid the South Shore Rd route, but since we were newbies, I'd invariably pass Starfish and think "he we go...".

By midweek I enjoyed the switchbacks, and it did seem quicker than going down Gifft Hill towards Centerline.

Definitely c/o private!

Great sunsets - good central location - we really enjoyed our stay there.

Not sure if we'd go back - not because we didn't like it, but I think we're "Coral Bay people" now.
