I received this from a very reliable source. FYI for all the photogs out there.

FACEBOOK has agreed to let third party advertisers use your posted pictures WITHOUT your permission. Click on SETTINGS up at the top where you see the Log out link. Select Privacy. Then select NEWSFEEDS and WALL. Next select the tab that reads FACEBOOK ADS. There is a drop down box, select NO ONE. Then SAVE your changes. (REPOST to let your friends know!

"Facebook occasionally pairs advertisements with relevant social actions from a user's friends to create Facebook Ads. Facebook Ads make advertisements more interesting and more tailored to you and your friends. These respect all privacy rules. You may opt out of appearing in your friends' Facebook Ads below."

I didn't see anything that even implied they were going to use my pictures for advertising. I'm pretty sure they would get quickly sued if using your photos were a default setting.

NOTHING surprises me with Facebook.

They have done nothing that deserves them the benefit of doubt.

Cid, I got this notice a couple of weeks ago and tracked it down in my settings, and yes, there is a box checked by default that gives permission. It's really sneaky and underhanded if you ask me. The setting is so buried, you'd probably never find it on your own.

I followed to exactly where sailorgirl had directed me (yes, its pretty buried) and the text I quoted is what I found next to the opt out dropdown. It said nothing about using my pictures for advertising. Could it be they got so many complaints they changed it or am I in the wrong place?
