The Balcony and Asolare

We ate at The Balcony two years ago and the food and service were good. Has anyone eaten there recently? How was the experience? Haven't read anything about it lately.

How about Asolare? We've never tried it and it looks pricey. Is it worth it?

Any other suggestions for "the last supper" on island are welcome.

Thanks.

Can it already be the "Last Supper" for you and your gang? I can't believe I have never been to the Balcony or Asolare but have heard good reviews from Mary Beth and Snorklequeen (Faith) in their past trip reports.
We usually go to Zozo's for the last splurge but if you have a large group, maybe you could go to Caneel for one of their big seafood buffets (not sure they have that on Friday).
Anyway, if it were me and my last night, I would actually pick up some nice steaks & vino at Starfish and chill & grill at the villa, with the awful thought of clean-up and packing in the back of my mind. Yuck!

Whatever you do, enjoy every minute! Reality soon come~

Drinks and appetizers at the Balcony (love the view at sunset there) then La Tapa for dinner? We are not big fans of Asolare and La Tapa has gotten so many great reviews!!!

What about that new place in the marketplace for $5 apps and cheap drinks and then dinner at La Tapa?
Plancha de la mer, I think? They have gotten fabulous reviews!

Asolare has been our "last supper" of choice.

It is a tad pricey, but the food, service, view and tradition have made it worth it to us.

If you do go, make a reservation for sunset and ask for a table along the rail.

Yes the food is good there. but do you really want to spend your last night on island in a cubbyhole in a mall? The Balcony and Asolare are both good choices with great views. The Banana Deck could also be an option. Maybe the Waterfront bistro.

We ate at the Balcony for lunch twice in May. Great food, very nice waitress and I love the view from there.

I would not, that is why I suggested drinks and apps followed by a nice dinner.I think that is the perfect night, at least in my book

Asolare is our favorite place for our big night out. It is nice starting with a glass of wine over at Zozo's bar and then driving over to Asolare.

Have not been to the Balcony in a couple of years but we did Asolare for our last meal this past June. I think their food has gotten much better in the past two years (new chef, maybe?), and they make some really interesting cocktails from house infused syrups. My favorite is the moonbow--it's grapefruit and rosemary, not too sweet.

It might not be the very best food on the island but the beautiful views, good service, and relaxing pace make it a good last night choice.

I agree with Kirk on the Waterfront Bistro. We had our "last night" meal there and it was Fabulous! The views from the Balcony are very good, but I was disappointed in the salad I had there the night we went.

Hands down, the service and food are excellent at the waterfront Bistro. We had the lobster....outstanding, and the baked pineapple with cocnut ice cream for desert was to die for. I do have some food porn to be included in my TR.

We ate at the Balcony in June. Maybe it was an off night or something, but not one out of 5 meals was appealing. (The waitress was less than appealing too.) As previously recommended, drinks and appetizers may be the way to go while enjoying the view from there.

It's so tough with restaurants because everyone has a different opinion on what's "the best" or "really good." I think Asolare has the best food I've tasted on the island. Truthfully, my husband and I have never tried La Tapa because nothing on the menu seems to appeal whenever we stop by. Go figure - apparently we're missing something.

To me, Asolare is an experience, part drinks, part food and part view. It is a highly beautiful atmosphere and the view is simply to die for. It's always our last meal.

La Tapa is our favorite. Paradiso is very good. Waterfront Bistro is a spot that my kids want to go back to. Banana Deck and Lime Inn are good values. I want Shipwreck Landing!!

I was with B-as-u-r at the Balcony that night in June. We almost laughed at the salad. It was so tiny, and looked silly on the plate. I've had better salads on a hamburger. No one was very pleased with their meal either, not to mention the waitress.
