Volunteers Needed This Weekend:
Humane Society & EAST Working Together For Beautification Project At New Humane Care Campus
The Environmental Association of St.Thomas- St.John (EAST) is pleased that the new Humane Society of St Thomas Humane Care Campus is about to open to serve the community's needs. EAST is working together with the Society to plant trees at their site with a focus on showcasing native trees. EAST secured a grant through the Urban and Community Forestry Assistance program which will enable approximately 300 trees to be planted in the surrounding areas that have been disturbed by the recent construction. The slopes and terrain leading to the pond area will be protected from runoff erosion with the new trees and will provide natural cover and food for wildlife. In addition planting trees helps the environment and reduce global warming.
The time has come to plant the trees but we need your assistance and help to comply with the volunteer hours of our grant. This Saturday and Sunday starting at 8 am volunteers are needed to assist in the plantings at the campus. The campus is located by Market Square East across the street from the Cost U Less.
To help us with this effort, please bring a pick or shovel as the planting supplies are very limited. Please dress appropriately with sneakers, gloves and plenty of sunscreen and bug spray. This educational and rewarding event will showcase the need to plant more native trees in the VI and to protect and beautify our environment. Water, a light breakfast and lunch will be provided by EAST.
Please leave your name and contact information with Jason Budsan at 775-6048 or Joe Aubain at 998-1421 no later than Friday July 17 to confirm your attendance.
