Day 10: LAST BEACH DAY
, Skinnys & Island Blues
Well, believe it or not our last full day is upon us. Gromit and I often lament how the trip starts out slow for the first couple of days, then the middle days are a blur and it ends at warp speed! This trip was no different. I can't believe how much we did and how fast it all went!
Ok, so this is the day that the Gromit's all went to the undisclosed location (wonder if Dick Cheney was there) and we were on our own. We happily returned to Francis for our last day. As much as I like to try new things, with the kiddos and gram I am more about the SURE THING and Francis is always a sure thing. The skeeters were completely manageable.
The Sahara Dust was still pretty thick but still the beauty is undeniable.

Of course by today we had completely lost track of what day of the week it was but it quickly became evident that it was Sunday as locals were out in full force. Skinboarding, paddle surfing and generally just enjoying the beauty that is their back yard.

The fam set to building a "Sand Man" (clearly we were having a winter themed summer vacay)!

Daddy is clearly our engineer but Mini Flip-Flop provided the eyes and nose.

Belly Flop was on a MISSION to knock the poor Sandman's head off and no matter how many times we offered to build him his own to destroy he was having none of it. He wanted to destroy his sisters.
He knocked the head off and was promptly reprimanded. He doesn't like being reprimanded.

He's cute but not always so sweet!
Soon we distracted him by heading into the water, quickly finding some animal life. A starfish, a sand dollar and a conch with a huge snail. No wildlife was harmed!

Little dude fully recovered quickly

Goofing off in the water

And one of my favorite shots from the trip

A snap of a very happy Flip-Flop doing what she does best...NADA

Before we knew it, again, it was time to pack it in and head to lunch. Since it was our last day, no PB&J on the beach, we decided to risk pushing back naptime and hit Skinny Legs again for burgers.
When we arrived the parking lot was FULLLLL of motorcycles. Or MOTOCYCLE as Belly Flop says. To say my little guys obsessed with cars and motorcycles is to put it lightly. He comes by it honestly, his dad is a total gear head. I often catch them watching Top Gear together (don't tell anyone but even I like the humor on Top Gear). So when he saw all the motorcycles his eyes got huge and he gave me this look as if to say, "DUDE, DO YOU SEE THIS?!"

He takes his time looking at each and every MOTO CYCLE! On our way in, one of the very tattooed, hard as nails looking Caribe Riders was on his way out and I mentioned to him that Belly Flop LOVED the motorcycles. He looks at him and says, "Hey little dude you want to see my motorcycle." Belly, who won't even look strangers in the eye most of the time, dropped me like a hot potato and followed the guy back out to the parking lot! Man I am in for it. The guys, though pretty tough and intimidating on the surface, were a bunch of softies, adding they would gladly let him sit on their cycles if they weren't so hot from the sun and would burn his little legs!
Nice, nice guys!
Inside and seated, my girl set to coloring

Gram loves a skinny's burger.

Today I am happy to report service was on it (Moe was in the house) and it didn't take long at all to get our sandwiches.
Gram's burger

Belly Flop's Hot Dog

And my blueburger!

And Mr. Flip enjoys his Mahi

Happy, happy full girls!

Goofing off while the guys look at the motorcycles one last time

Post-Lunch it was the usual. Nap, Pool, relaxation. I started to pack up and get organized for our departure! Our flight out on Monday was early for us, used to leaving around 3-4 we were scheduled to fly out at 12 noon!
Soon, I had done all we could do and my Mama offered to watch the wee ones while Hubby and I headed out for a little alone time. Considering we had quite the group we really didn't spend much time one-on-one. we elected to go fill the jeep with gas (ROMANTIC, I know!) and hit Island Blues for a few appetizers and to just chill out. Already, the sense of longing to stay was setting in.
Again, we had great service and watched the dusk turn to night while enjoying some popcorn shrimp and wings. Oh and a few BBCs!

We caught the very tail end of some live music and soon it was time to head home and prepare for the dreaded walk of woe!
Bye Island Blues, see you soon!

Mr. Flip-Flop packed up the car for the most part so in the morning all we would have to do is break down the packnplay, load up our carry-ons and roll. Still, each last night is always very bittersweet for me. I am starting to miss the comforts of home but also just starting to settle in fully to the pace of St. John. I don't know what it is but I love this island and its people. This trip particularly I felt privileged to spend quality time with many locals and forumites alike and I felt I fell into a rhythm of life that is so peaceful, natural and mellow for me. I think it is my normal high-strung nature that makes the draw to this mellow little rock so much stronger for me.
Pia, Ruth, all my forum friends, Gromit and Crew (even the difficult moments), I thank you all so much for sharing the experiences this time around. Each trip is like no other and this was one of the best yet!
Tomorrow: Leaving Casa Luna, Car Return, and straight to the Airport (AKA a very boring day)
