I know this villa has been discussed and I tried to search but nothing came up..
The original villa I wanted to rent is already booked for March 2010. So I am looking at
Villa Maria...It is for our family of 5..Myself, husband, 3 kids (20, 16, 13). Here are my questions if you
have rented it..
1. Would you recommend it?
2. Is it private? Don't need to be isolated, but just don't want excessive noise from neighbors, etc..
3. I believe the master br is separate... Would this lead to me worrying about he safety of the kids, or is
it still secure for the kids bedrooms, etc. (outside entrances to the kids bedrooms?)
4. Are the furnishings in good shape??
Any other info, etc you would like to provide would be great....Thank you so much!! ; )

We stayed there, albeit a few years ago.

1. Would you recommend it?

Yes, we'd stay again.

2. Is it private? Don't need to be isolated, but just don't want excessive noise from neighbors, etc..

Didn't notice any noise from the sides, there was the beginnings of construction on a villa below, but note that this is waaaay old info. Could be done, or given island time, who knows? ;-)

3. I believe the master br is separate... Would this lead to me worrying about he safety of the kids, or is
it still secure for the kids bedrooms, etc. (outside entrances to the kids bedrooms?)

Yes, the master is in a separate building. Two BR in main have outside entrances to deck overlooking ocean. There is a gate that you can latch from the inside by the parking area, and there is a separate little used set of stairs that was overgrown. I wouldn't call it extrememly secure, but it was less accessible than any other villa we've stayed in. Not sure who you are renting through, but the agency we used has a nice floor plan on their website, including doors, stairs, etc.

4. Are the furnishings in good shape??
This would be the weakest point. We felt it was worn, didn't even have a toaster, but I thought I read it had undergone some spiffing up since our stay.

The pool is great, the outside decking overlooking the bay and ocean are wonderful, loved cooking on the grill with a cocktail while watching the sun set over St Thomas.

We stayed at the Villa Maria this past April and wish we could do it again tomorrow. We loved the villa and the location. The views out on the point are great and the temperatures in March should be just right. We didn't really encounter any "noise" from the neighbors but the villa next door ran their AC all of the time and that could be annoying to whoever is in the bedroom on that side of the house. We never felt the need for AC while we were there. Otherwise the pool area is private and the Master Bedroom overlooks it. I don't believe you should have problems with the children in the house. The front door is difficult to open even with the key (a sliding door) but there are lockable sliding doors in the back to the porches. Probably as "safe" as anyplace on the island but I would still lock the sliders at night (especially after the problem we had this trip).
The furnishings were fine and the kitchen was one of the best equiped we have used.
