A week in paradise - Day 4 (Trunk, Skinny Legs)

Day 4 was Saturday, 6/27. There weren't supposed to be any cruise ships in port today, so we decided to head for Trunk Bay. Typical coffee and lazing around the villa since we tended to wake up earlier than we might would have like for a vacation...but it worked out really well. As we were driving through town and turning onto the North Shore Road, I hear a local yell at me that one of my tires is nearly flat. Huh...??? How could I have missed that? Sure enough, after a quick stop and check, the left-rear tire is very low. I head back through town to the Suttons, and it's just Carmen there. She said to take it to the gas station and ask the guys to pull the tire and check for leaks. "The guy" who does that wasn't there, so I aired it back to full pressure and listened/waited/visibly checked everything and could not find a leak or anything in the tire. So, we headed out to Trunk. Besides, I told my wife, we have a spare!

Arriving at Trunk, the parking lot was less than half full (good sign), but the skies were threatening some rain. We found a nice spot about half-way between the lifeguard stand and the left end of the beach. It was pretty empty until about 11 or so, and then it got somewhat busy. This being our first trip, I have little to compare to, but would guess it was still pretty light for the average day at Trunk. I snorkeled quite a bit, going out to the far tip of the cay and saw a lot of stuff. It rained for about 5 minutes while I was out, which is a weird feeling being in the water and feeling the hard drops hit your back. A very nice beach, and we'd go back as long as it wasn't a cruise-ship day. Here are a few pictures from Trunk:

This shot is not enhanced in any way..the skies really were that dark for a short time.

A couple hours after eating our packed lunch we packed up the gear and headed east toward Coral Bay. My wife wanted to see the jack...err donkeys, and I was thinking Skinny Legs. We stopped at the overlook to take a few pictures of Coral Bay, and proceeded into town. Well, my first-timer status showed here, as I turned and went down past Cocoloba, Island Blues, etc. before realizing that I should have gone the other way. oops. Oh, and the tire was holding up fine. We went in and had a couple of drinks and shared a burger at Skinny's and then drove out to the East End. We did manage to find a pair of 'donkeys'. I pulled off to take a picture, and my lovely bride whistles and calls them! Like any wild animal...they run toward us thinking we're just gonna have food. She's all happy that she's going to pet them when they stick their heads in the window...hahaha. When said jacks get within kicking/biting distance they were left in a cloud of dust and gravel! They might be fairly tame, but they are wild and not to be messed-with! That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Stopped back in Cruz Bay to top off the tire with air, and it had lost from 35 psi down to about 20 during our travels. I called the Suttons and said that we were planning on spending Sunday in town and at the Festival, so they could look at it....but that's tomorrow's story. Dinner was pasta and a jar of sauce...easy and tasty, as my wife was starting to feel the effects of too much sun and rum.

Here are a few from Skinny's and a night shot of Bongo Bongo using my Gorillapod from the deck.

This must work, because all the FLYS left us alone. I think they should write FLIES on some of the water bags though to keep those critters away!
