trip "report"

I am not organized enough and I don't have the attention span to do a real trip report. So I am going to first do a villa report and then post a few pics another day.

First, it was GREAT meeting so many forumites! Wish there had been more time to chat, but it was fun meeting all of you at the Beach Bar!

We were in Moonswept Villa, up on Calabash Boom. I haven't heard of anyone else renting this villa but I highly recommend it. It is lovely. It is a 2 BR villa with 2 kings. AC in both bedrooms and bathrooms in both bedrooms. There is a sofa bed but we didn't use it.

PROS-
incredible views and breezes
very quiet area-there is construction below but we couldn't hear or see any of it.
beautifully furnished, clean and new
very user friendly layout
nice pool area
great tvs, stereo, etc...

CONS-
some may not like that there is a caretaker underneath the house in an apartment. he is a really cool guy, though. he was not there the whole time, stayed with a friend. he was helpful and pretty much left us alone as we didn't really need an orientation to the island or anything. unless you are planning on being exceptionally bad, it should not deter you. he more or less said there was no one around and it was fine to play the music loudly, etc...

the other con was not as bad as I thought it might be. the road is rocky, uphill and unpaved most of the way. but it wasn't overly scary. I was nervous the first few times, but basically, it was just a very bumpy ride. Even after a hard rain, it didn't get muddy. Would I recommend the road to a St. John first timer? Not quite sure, but it really was not that bad.

Here are some photos:

As you can see the place a views are gorgeous. More trip photos later!

Thanks for the report. The house looks spacious and the views spectacular. How far away is Calabash Boom to North Shore beaches? To Salt Pond or the Lamshurs?

Maybe someone can answer better than me. I would say 2 miles to Salt Pond....?

About 10-15 minutes to get to Francis or Maho...?

It was fine...it takes so long to get through Cruz Bay these days, I didn't think this was any worse coming from the other side of the island. Maho and Francis are right there pretty much off Centerline-basically just approaching the North Shore from the opposite direction.

It was great to meet you and thank you for all the gifts for the school children - I hope you don't mind me telling on you, but you deserve a huge shout out for bringing a box with over 200 small what I will call "incentive to do good in school" toys for the start of the new school year - they are going to love you :)

One thing I learned about this house from djmom is that it has interior access to bedrooms - I have always thought the house looked fabulous and have had it bookmarked for sometime so great to know it is as good as it looks.

It would probably take about 6-8 mins down to Shipwreck from the house and Maho would be about 10 mins from there so you were right on djmom probably 15 mins to Maho and Saltpond maybe 5 mins :)
