Hello- Does anyone have experience getting panoramic photo prints made from jpeg files?
Any suggestions on websites or best practices on cropping or pixel ratios...etc?
We are talking about getting our north shore panoramic printed for mounting in our den...
Thanks-
Sherb

I think California girl would be a good one to ask about that. She posted a great one on the forum recently...

Let me first say that I have not used this place, but I have just uploaded some pictures there and plan on ordering this week (I am slow on this stuff).

I could not find many place that had panoramic prints available in larger sizes, so
I did want to at least pass along a site. If I do get around to ordering, I will try and get back here and update.

If considering the enlargement then framing thing, look at the gallery wrapped canvas prints that come ready to hang on the wall.
These guys do exceptional work and with their great customer service will likely be able to work with you on a custom size print. They are good with helping you out with both the technical and artistic aspects. They aren’t cheap, but could be a better bang for the buck vs. if you price out getting a large print made, then custom framing, glass, etc.

Here is a print we had done by them as a gift for my daughter – those are her feet.

Here is a panoramic I may consider getting done as a custom canvas print:

Panoramas... one of my favorite topics!
I've had exceptional luck with ezprints
http://ezprints.com/
They re-worked their website several months ago and now I'm completely confused about how to order, but I'm sure their quality is probably still the same. They offer panoramas printed either 6" or 12" tall by however long it turns out to be, so you don't have to worry about getting your size cropped just so. (Of course, this always results in custom framing which isn't cheap.) I got my Trunk Bay panorama printed by ezprints and I think it only cost $15.00, and it's great! I've had several printed to give as gifts as well.
Your resolution should be as high as possible to get a good print out of it.

Thanks for the responses ya'll...
Just to make it more challenging we want to use an existing custom frame we had made 11 years ago...just to make it more difficult!
So, we decided to order a 12x36 print and have it mounted/matted locally....(15$ +7$ FDX)
Ordered the print from:
nationsphotolab.com
The thing I am most concerned about is resoloution, like Margo said...but heck it's a journey and I'll learn along the way.
I'll post once I get the print and let ya'll know how the saga plays out.
Thanks again.

Well, I received my panaramic photo via Fed-Ex today...and...it looks great...YEA! Resolution and cropping are as expected & look good.
So now the wife and I have to try to re-use a previously mounted matt that is already in a frame...or take the existing frame and photo in to have another custom mounting done....this is the existing frame we are going to use...
Wish us luck...last weekend I was bleeding from a glass cut (duh!)...glad this is a three day weekend...
I'll let ya'll know...
Cheers

Thats a real cool idea to re-use an exisitng frame. Good luck with the re-matting and re-framing. Its not as easy as you would think.

As a custom framer for 20 years, I also think it's a good idea to re-use the frame & glass. That's the most expensive part of framing. Be careful when you remove the mat from the exisitng picture, as it may have been attached to the mounting board with double-sided tape and it's real easy to bend the mat if you're not careful. I suggest having the mat face down on a level surface and peeling the picture up, instead of the other way around. You should do fine. And also, do you realize you can spray paint a mat to give it a new look? You'd want to use a flat paint for this. Good luck! I hope you post a picture of the finished piece!

CG- Thanks for the suggestions.
I thought I would share the reason why we are doing this "upgrade"...I thought some of you might get a chuckle out of it...It's one of those domino effect stories about how the remodeling project started...
You know, you buy a new lamp or paint a room and all of the sudden you feel like you gotta totally remodel the whole freakin' room so it looks good with the new lamp or new paint...know what I mean?
So, my mom is in that stage where when you visit her she wants you to pick out stuff you want when she dies...sheesh mom, come on this is morbid and I don't want to talk about it...well ok, there is that "fish sculpture" in the garage that I always liked...looks like you aren't using it anymore....."oh sweetie, just take it, will it fit in your suitcase?"...well no mom, I couldn't...well let me see if it fits...yep it fits ...done, I'll take the sculpture, we don't even have to wait for....nevermind. Yep, the "fish sculpture" did it...now our entire den may become carribbean modern/sheik/retro/deco....what-ever.
Plus our bedroom may get in the mix because that's where the frame is coming from...which creates a decoration vacuum...
Here's the culprit:

Home depot here we come....

Ok, that's it, were done with the re-framing and it worked out fine....whew!
A key enabler to our success was the website I used to print the photo allowed alot of flexibility in print size as well as had a "dynamic cropping" tool that I used so I could see what the actual image cropping would be...we almost trashed the old matt but pulled it off instead....the old matt was taped and glued but we got it out without trashing it.
Now we have the north shore view in our den, yea!
Now the "remodelling" goes on...this may turn into a multi hundered dollar saga...
