What in heaven's name are they building at the point in Great Cruz Bay? It is on the Maria Bluff side by the water and from our view on Gifft looked like a hotel!! Does anyone know what this is? We didn't see it last year so it must be building really fast by island standards!

Nope - I believe the Pond Bay Resport is at the back of Chocolate Hole.

I remember seeing that construction site this past Dec. It's low on the hillside, close to waters edge right? I think we were told it was a private residence. Seemed to me at the time there were several buildings and LOTS of building activity. I'm sure someone on island can tell more.

I think this is what you are talking about and this is how it looked in Dec '08

We were in Palm Hill villa (the one with the red roof) right about the construction last month. It appeared to be a villa being built. At the pace they were going it will be 2020 before it's inhabitable!

When we stayed at Villa Maria in April we looked down at that construction for the entire week and wondered how many villas they were building. On our last night we ended up sharing a table on the sidewalk outside of Woodies with a couple of gentlemen who were working on the site. They stated it was a single villa. Here is what it looked like from above.

Whew!!! I think we were right beside your villa the week of April 23 - 30. We had the music up pretty loud a couple of afternoons while we were in the pool. I was hoping I wouldn't have to apologize to you!

WOW

A single residence huh? That's one big house. Well God love 'em - if you've got the bucks why not spend 'em!.....Wonder if if will be in a rental pool? Not that I could afford it!

Funny, I saw a CZM permit denied for a private dock near that site?

Cheers, RickG

Jo Ann : There would be no need to apologize anyway. The only problem we had was the people in the villa next door decided to run the AC 24/7 during the week which was definitely more annoying than any music. Our solution was to just turn our music up louder.

RickG : Don't know anything about a permit, but there was definitely a dock on the site.

The villa belongs to S. Donald Sussman, Hedge Fund Trader and philantropist. He has been a major donor to the Friends of the Park (Mooring buoys, Cinnamon Bay Archaeology) and more recently, the University of the Virgin Islands ($150,000 last month). The house has been under construction for at least 3 years, but its extent has gotten a little more obvious lately.
