Kudos to Caneel for thinking outside the box!

Spotted this article on line and have to say this is a really smart move on their part as long as they manage it well (see below).

Last summer we went to Prague and the Aria Hotel provided each guest with an iPod loaded with music for the guest to keep and use for the duration of their stay.

It's these little touches that keep a property competitive.

Guests Flip for Rosewood with Caneel Bay’s New Flip Video Program

Caneel Bay guests have access to use these Flip UltraHD cameras to record their vacation memories.

Caneel Bay Resort, long known for its laid back, low-tech approach to vacations, is bringing guests into the 21st century with its Flip For Rosewood program.

Along with four other Rosewood resorts, Caneel is now offering its guests complimentary access to Flip UltraHD camcorders during their vacations. At the end of their stay, Caneel’s concierge will download guests’ videos to YouTube or burn the footage to a DVD as a souvenir to share with friends and family.

The program began when Rosewood approached Pure Digital Technologies Inc., the company which manufactures the Flip UltraHD, to create a special new offering for its guests, explained Caneel Managing Director Nikolay Hotze.

“We wanted to create a unique program that our guests would enjoy and benefit from,” said Hotze. “We created Flip for Rosewood to provide guests with a unique experience — something they can’t find anywhere else.”

The rise of Internet social networking has made it possible for vacationers to share their trip with friends and family, according to a press release issued by Rosewood.

“With the rise of Facebook, YouTube and Twitter, the thrill of a perfect vacation is magnified by the knowledge that your getaway is being enjoyed, virtually, by your loved ones back home,” according to the release.

The newly released Flip UltraHD is an easy to use, pocket-sized high definition camcorder which features 120 minutes of record time, a large LCD screen and rechargeable batteries.

Caneel concierges will present guests with the camcorder upon their arrival and share easy to use tips for the best results.

The camcorders are also available at Rosewood Sand Hill, Menlo Park, California; Rosewood Mayakoba, Riviera Maya, Mexico; Rosewood Little Dix Bay, Virgin Gorda; and Rosewood Inn of the Anasazi, Santa Fe, New Mexico.

The Flip For Rosewood program is in keeping with Rosewood’s tradition of offering its guests a unique experience, according to the press release.

“Differentiating itself from other luxury hotel companies by offering unique amenities and programs that cannot be found anywhere else, Rosewood has a proud tradition of providing guests with once in a lifetime opportunities and the most in demand new products,” according to Rosewood’s release.

Above all, the program makes it easy to share vacation memories with loved ones, explained Hotze.

“The Flip For Rosewood program provides guests the opportunity to capture their vacation memories on the digital camcorder and instantly share with their social network,” he said. “Whether filming their children diving into the ocean, a romantic moment over dinner, or a stunning sunset, guests of Caneel Bay are able to share these special vacation memories with their family and friends.”

What a great idea! We are planning a trip for our 15th anniversary (a year from now) and if it is still offered, it is something we would definately take advantage of.

Years back, late 90's I believe, Caneel provided cell phones for guests to use.

You know Pia -- I was thinking the SAME thing!

They are so low tech in some ways, but now high tech in others.

Of course I suspect when it comes to the high tech vs low tech issues they are in actuality NO tech when it comes to TV's which sounds pretty zen to me. 8)

I have to laugh at all the trip advisor reviews that say things like "our honeymoon was ruined because we were so bored without a tv and phone" and "thank god I had my laptop with me to watch movies or we would have been bored to death."

PA Girl-- That reminds me of something a co-worker said when she returned from her honeymoon cruise.

She said she just "couldn't WAIT to get back to work..."

I was like HUH!?!?!??

Um yeah. That's probably why she's on her second marriage now.

I have and will be bringing a Flip Video Camera. They are pretty neat, although they (the format) are not easy to edit. I got the HD Flip to begin with, and I could not get any of my editing software to work. I found out I had to buy a very expensive one, so I traded it (the HD Flip) in on the regular Flip, and now I can do simple edits on my existing software.

Just sayin......

Our honeymoon was in a little hut perched over the water in Jamaica. No TV. There was a restaurant on site.

I remember people making fun of me for not being more tan on my return.

Bored on a honeymoon...now that is a bad sign!

Damn. I just bought a Flip for next week's trip. I'll let the kids use the complimentary one

If Caneel gets TV's, we'll stop going. You are in one of the most beautiful activity packed places, why would you spend even a second watching TV. The only TV I watch when there, is while waiting for my drinks to be prepared at the Caneel bar. Hmmmm. From the amount of drinks we get, I think I actuaally may watch more tv there than at home

My husband is still bitter about the installation of AC. TVs would put him over the edge.

Cause I am here sitting at work ... counting the minutes. Wrapping up projects is a b##@ch!

Though I am worrying about ... "oh no, I forgot hats" or "Did I remember the ipod speakers?" ... I am the girl who went on her honeymoon to an island and forgot to pack a single swimsuit.

Ha. PA Girl. We were nervous about the AC also, but we didn't use it much.

Where in PA are you from? We are in Blue Bell outside of Philly
