off topic stuff

I'm a very frequent lurker and a very infrequent poster. I've read through the recent posts and debated even responding. But, for my own clarification, I wanted to share my thoughts. In the most basic of terms, I thought Off Topic meant simply, Off Topic. I wasn't aware that there were limits about what could, and couldn't be, discussed. I think the problem is that people are having trouble keeping these topics friendly. People are passionate about their politics and emotional responses have to be expected. There can sometimes be a sort of pack mentality when one posts something that the majority don't agree with. Granted, there often times is a lot of 'tude (to quote my 19 yr old)to the initial posts and folks sometimes respond in kind. I tend to lean conservative and in the past it has been hard not to get in the fray and defend my point of view but I haven't for fear of being bullied off the forum. With all due respect, I don't think the solution is to limit what can be discussed in an off topic forum, rather we all should just be respectful of opposing views, and just ignore the posts that cross the line. Not everyone is going to play nicely in the same sandbox but I'm certainly willing to share mine (especially if it happens to be located on MAHO!!!) and hope others will too. I'll go back to lurking now...
