arrival time

Need a little help from you veterans.My wife and I are visiting this July. What would be the latest STT arrival time to be able to get the rental car and make the car ferry to StJOHN?
I would say probably 3:30pm, maybe 4pm at the latest if you are a first timer.
Plan on 40 mins for luggage and the car, sometimes less but I have heard, depending on who you rent from and if it is peak season and peak arrival time, 60+ mins, 45 mins drive to Red Hook putting you there close to 5pm/5:30pm
You then might make the 5pm if it is running late and there is room, but if not, you still have a few ferries left to catch - how many depends on how many are running on that day.
Also, I would not want to arrive on STJ for the first time in the dark - and depending on the time of year it is dark between 6pm (ish) in the winter and 7pm (ish) in the summer.
