We are planning our Feb 2010 trip and a forumnite steered me towards a house in Virgin Grande Estates that looks great for our group.
I know nothing about this neighborhood. Anyone care to share their pros, cons, "you should know..." opinions?
Opps, posted too soon -
How is the area accessed?
I am looking at my street atlas and it looks like there is a road across from the Westin but something in my memory tells me there is a locked gate.

Hi PaGirl,
The entrance to Virgin Grand is off of Gifft Hill Road. There is a pedestrian entrance at the bottom of Virgin Grand which connects to the Westin.
Virgin Grand Estates is a gated subdivision. All of the homes have great Western facing sunset views. This keeps the pools warm but also makes AC a necessity in late afternoons.
All the houses in VGE are newer, some are mega mansions and the roads are easy to drive on.
Like most all neighborhoods that are not Peter Bay, a drive is necessary to get to the beaches.

Look across the top of the VIOL page, it is the center left book, in between the map (good map, BTW) and the STJ beach guide.

We love Virgin Grand its great views. The roads are well graded and not challenging. The timid may come and go via Centerline Road, but I love the view going down Gifft Hill Road!
The houses are all good looking and there is great landscaping in the neighborhood. This a mature neighborhood, so there is less construction, but do check on your particular house.
Cheers, RickG

Happy to see benchill chime in here as an expert on that area. He helped us immensely last year when we rented Ellison Villa. His advice was right on the money.
As for us, we liked the area, though not as much as some other we have stayed at on the island. Ellison itself was a beautiful place, though I felt as though we were in a pretty remote part of the island. Usually that is good, but in that case I was the only guy with two women and a young son. Would've probably felt more comfortable in a less remote area. Probably makes no sens to anyone else here, but that's what I thought. The houses up there are beautiful, as are the views.
Oh and I agree with Rick - take the southshore road as often as you can!
Enjoy!
