Happy News to Share plus a September Question

Hi forumites. Though I am not an incredibly regular poster, I am around from time to time. Some of you remember me as the "Donkey girl" who couldn't seem to find a donkey back on our first trip in July 2007. We've had two great return trips since. I am happy to announce that my husband and I are expecting our first child around New Year's. We are very excited - and to think, it only took us 7 years of marriage to take the leap! What can I say, moving fast is not our forte.

Anyway, I wrote recently b/c hubby and I were planning a trip to Italy in September. We held off on buying airfare until we had a confirmed sonogram, etc. Glad we did, as it turns out we are going to Europe next May with my in-laws and my favorite BIL and his wife for a Memorial Day celebration in The Netherlands where my husband's grandfather is buried. He died in WWII and next year will be the final time my husband's parents make a trip to Europe. They want us to come and we've agreed. This means we will likely change our September plans and tack on Italy to our May trip instead.

This leaves us with a week for a babymoon elsewhere in early September. Has anyone been to St. John during this time? I know many things are closed, but is the island still nice at this time? Would you look elsewhere (Aruba, etc) to avoid hurricanes?

I love sept yes there is stuff closed but there is enough open for me to find different places to eat.
The island is so laid back at this time the locals are friendlier IMO and there seems to be more villa owners on island kind of neat to talk with them.

First, CONGRATS on the wee one! Such an adventure.

Second, we haven't been in September but the last week of August was lovely. Things are still open, things are on sale because the season is ending, people seem very laid back and relaxed and NO ONE on any of our favorite beaches! It was pure bliss (except the mosquitos)!

Get trip insurance to ensure no hurricanes ;-)

Congrats on your new baby.

We did Aruba the October before last. It was atypically rainy and humid, hot and buggy. It was not the Aruba weather we'd had the trip five years previous to that. Couldn't believe it. But it's the weather and you can't control it. It was hurricane season and lots of storms nearby that pushed systems into the islands that usually have fantastic weather 12 months of the year.

First of all CONGRATULATIONS :)

I LOVE September - my favorite month on STJ :)

Yes many restaurants are closed, and with the economy and the lack of spending on the island right now, there will probably be more restaurants close or at least those that do might close for a longer period (a month instead of 2 weeks for example) but I still love September.

It is the highest risk month for a "H" (won't type that word  ) so do get insurance if it a concern for you but the beaches are empty and the water is sooooooo warm and as far as rain goes the island is typically very dry as we expect our largest rainfall of the year (think big cistern fillers) in Oct/Nov.

I think you will have a great time.

Congrat's again

Pia

Congratulation with your future status as a mom.

We were married for 6 years before we got our boy.
Our friends told us that now we would loose our freedom to do what we want. And yes we did, but we never missed it. To be parents gave us much more.
