Have been going to St John on and off for 20 years and have finally booked a tour with the National Park Service for a Reef Bay Trail Tour! Am so excited. my question is, what to wear. i figure a bathsuit with a cover up but, what about shoes? Will sandals do. I am really not a sneaker person. Will bring water and a snack. Thanks for all your advice!!!

My opinion is that you should have on something with some support. Perhaps you have a pair of Tevas/Chacos/Keens in which you feel comfortable.
I would definitely recommend something more than you beach type sandals.

Bill, the trip down is very steep with loose stones and exposed roots. I would strongly discourage thong type sandals and encourage something sturdy that will protect your toes because it is really easy to stub your toe if you aren't watching your feet every second. The bathing suit with coverup will be fine but it will be hot if it you are going in summer so something that wicks the sweat off like a super light runner's top and shorts wouldn't be a bad choice. Don't forget bug spray.

They actually dont reccomend open toes (I am sure keens or sturdy tevas would be fine). I wore a tankini with lighweight shorts and a short sleeved shirt, and hat. We packed a full lunch, water, sunscreen, bug spray, and bite stick, and a towel. The day goes from 9am until 3:30pm ENJOY! It's a great day!
