poncho?

After Margo's trip report I am thinking about adding ponchos to my ever growing list of things. How many of you guys bring them?
Now that I am thinking about it there is always at least one beach day where it sure would have been nice to have a few ponchos in the jeep...you know those days when the storm takes a while to blow over, but you aren't ready to give up on the beach?

I bought a bunch for our trip to Disney a few years back (didn't want to pay Disney prices for them) and I always end up packing a couple in our stuff.
Never had the occasion to wear it on STJ though-- but I am prepared!
I also keep a couple in the car.
I found a place on line that essentially sold them by the dozen and you could choose clear or from a bunch of colors.
I think in bulk (12 or more) they ended up being like $2 - $3 a piece.
They come folded in a square and in their own individual package.
Like I said, I keep them for emergencies and they've come in handy.

good idea, since I am a GS leader it won't hurt to have an extra thousand on hand
they are nice and squishy so shouldn't be too hard to fit in.
let's just think- we will be on island at the same time. if we both bring ponchos, that cuts the chance of rain WAY down...

We will never travel to STJ without ponchos again. Ever. We, like Margo, got caught in that rain on our travel day home. We were soaked from head to toe and this, just starting out a 16 hour travel day. Extremely unpleasant!

I've never considered traveling with ponchos, but Marcia makes a good point.... Reminds me of a grade school field trip to a farm with lots of rain and all us kids wearing garbage bags with holes cut for head and (optionally) arms. Suppose that'd work in a pinch but the poncho sounds like a better idea.

ponchos sound like a good money maker for a store that is close to the ferry dock......hmmmmmmmmmm

Yeah and SOMEONE could just hike up the price when it starts to rain!!
Honestly the only time I woudl ever end up wearing aponcho on island would be on the travel days themselves.
It would be a bitch trying to deal with luggage and an umbrella and any rainjacket with a hood worth its salt would be too hot IMHO.
I will say this though... the ones I got were really only designed to be used a few times. They are really lightweight and a bit stretchy. These are not the heavy duty ones.
I'll check and see if I can't find the on line receipt somewhere in my files...

My Disney World poncho is heavy duty and I should get many years of use out of it, considering how often I use one! (Wish I'd had it at Jazz Fest, though!)
I was super glad I had it, even though I was still soaked from mid-thigh down, as least I wasn't wet through and through like Marcia & Pete!
They take up so little room, why not throw one in just to be on the safe side!

They sell them in Cruz Bay for (I believe) $2.00 - very lightweight plastic.
I love them and always travel with one in my bag when returning to the States - nothing like boarding a plane in STT waiting to go up the stairs in a torrential downpour - no fun being soaked, on a plane with the a/c going for 3+ hours

I always throw our WDW ponchos in the bag. I've also got or seen them at Target & Walmart by the umbrellas, at All-a-Dollar, and they usually have emergency ponchos in the camping isles (the lightweight cheapies for $1). Just a little folded square. Very easy to pack. I love our Disney ones. They are nice and have lasted through many years and trips.
