skeeter and water update

Over the last three days starting on Thursday 05/28, here is what I have noticed: Most of the beaches had almost no skeeters except for Maho Bay. We went there after lunch on Friday and they were pretty bad. When you hike to get to some spots, they are pretty bad.

The water is almost back to normal from algea plume. You can still tell just a slight off on the color. When you dive and get below a certain level, you can also tell as it seems to get a little clearer when you get below say 60 feet or so. The water also seem to be just a touch cooler in spots.

The weather has been great. Clouds the first couple of days and almost no clouds yesterday. It rained for about 5 minutes that I know of.

About to head out to Waterlemon in about 5 minutes. I hear there are a lot of star fish and turtles to see. Then off to Skinny Legs for lunch and a south shore beach for the rest of the day. Life is good. 8)

Thanks for the up-date! The Snorkelqueen family will be on island on the 15th and since snorkel is part of our name  I was really worried about the quality of the water! Hope to see everyone at the Beach Bar on the 21st.

We hit 11 beaches in 7 days last week. It was my first time, but I think the snorkeling was better than St. Maarten, Punta Cana, anything in Mexico or the Bahamas. I only occasionally noticed faint cloudiness from alge. Skeeters and no-see-ums were worst for us at Francis. Seems like at about 4:30 they just came out in full force - we practically ran to the Jeep. The 100% Deet spray we found was quite effective though. Maho, Jambi, Honeymoon, Gibney and Hawksnest were fine, Cinnamon got pretty brutal at sunset. I expected the trail at Salt Pond in late afternoon to be bad, but it was fine. I really think it's just hit and miss.

Yes, you can buy deet on the island. We purchased it at the drug store above the Starfish Market.

The rest of our vacation was fantastic. It was my first time to Gibney and Hawksnest. I guess I need to share some pictures.

Nice to know I can get it there. I don't think I can get anything else in my bag.
