Since I just booked our next trip, I thought I would finally get our last trip report DONE!
This was a last minute trip, Hubby and I needed to get out of dodge and I started by looking for the cheapest airfare. We booked Continental EWR-SJU-STT. I had a lot of reservations about flying through SJU, having never done it before and Continental flys like a 12 seater from SJU to STT, but I learned that if you log in at 12:01 on the day of your flight and there are any available seats to you destination that day, you may change for $50pp. So, for $100 we changed to the direct flight which put us on island almost 2.5 hours earlier! SO worth it! Did a marathon villa search (3 weeks out) and found Miles Away after reading the reviews and was able to book it with a nice discount (last minute). I was glad because we've stayed in the Point Rendevous neighborhood before and I like that part of the island (even though the east end pull/vibe was so strong, we are going to stay in Coral Bay next year!) We are cooler people and this year I got super organized and brought the perfect amount of food for two people for a week (message me if you would like my cooler packing list) Shrimp, burger, mahi mahi, lamb chops, cold cuts, even frozen drink mix! Yummy lots of villa food porn.
Day #1 Flight was super smooth and direct (our origianl flight to SJU was deplaned during boarding (they were at the next gate) and I knew things were just going to work out this day! Arrived in STT and had some ice cold pineapple Cruzan, got our luggage and were the last two passengers in the van to Red Hook. Four cruise ships in town, so we had to take the high road. Cab was $15pp including bags (we had four) + tip. Ferry tickets were $10pp (including bags) New ferry terminal in Red Hook looks great! We got a rum punch at the bar and waited for the 3pm ferry. The rum punch was DYNAMITE and a great way to kick off our vacation! Peggy from Destination St John met us at the ferry dock and took us to STJ Car Rental (first time with them, very smooth) picked up our jeep and we headed to Miles Away. I cant say enough about this villa, it was magic!!! Please see my recent review in the review section. We would book this villa again in a heartbeat! It is perfect for one or two couples, or a family with older child(ren). We arrived to a spectacular welcome basket and it had everything, from LIMES to chip and salsa, to cheese and crackers, bananas, apples, orange, trail mix, etc!! We unpacked, checked the place out, and soaked in the views. Hopped in the car and headed to Cruz Bay for Shrimp Night at the Lime Inn. This is one of our MUST Dos when we are on island. $19.95 all you can eat steamed shrimp in Old Bay with your choice of veg or potato. This meal does not disappoint, I just love the Lime Inn!! Since this was our only meal out, and it was my birthday trip, we did Happy Birthday with an amazing Chocolate Mousse for dessert! YUMMY! After dinner we walked around CB, went to the BB, but were beat and we headed home, hit the Starfish for milk and bread, beer (for the limes!!) and rum. Headed back to Miles Away and hit the most comfortable villa beds EVER!. I was dreaming of the morning, since we were determined to do a trip with (almost) all new experiences! To be continued...

Is the checking in at 12:01 just a Continental thing or for all airlines?

That's a heck of a tip, there. Please let us know if that goes for other airlines!
