Wow:

St. Thomas just lost Mountain Top and the Atlantis Submarine in a couple of weeks. It will be a different St. Thomas for a lot of tourists - and residents.

What a pity. When we were on STT we tried to find Mountain Top, but never succeeded. I have always thought that if we return I want to see the place. But how long time will it take before the top is, as it was before the fire?

That is a good question - will be interesting to see if they plan to rebuild or not. I could imagine this attraction being gone for a long time.

I watched this from my deck here on St. John. Pretty spectacular.

Definetly one of the best view on STT. I will miss it.
Just driving up to Mountain Top was a beautiful drive.

That's awful. I can't get into the onepaper link. What was the cause? Not arson, I hope.

The article was brief and there wasn't any cause mentioned yet. I would think there will be more news eventually -

My heart goes out to those who worked there and have suddenly lost their jobs. I'm glad there were no injuries.

While I'm sorry to see any business affected like this I was never much of a fan.
I had a friend who worked up there and was a bartender. She made the "world famous banana daiquiries" that they charged a TON of money for and she always felt so bad cause she knew she was totally ripping people off with the sub par watered down drinks. She worked there for years.
It was a nice view though.
They used to house some exotic birds up there who did tricks for the tourists. I hope they are OK.

Gromit, the last three times I was there, I never saw the birds...so maybe they're gone.
They don't water those drinks down all the time...because there was no way I could finish a second one the last time I went.
All those people with the stores up there, I feel very sorry for them. Always had cruise ship people up there and I'm sure for alot of them, it was their living.

We went up there on our last trip, the views were amazing, we took the tram up. Is this the same place? There were shops and birds there. I did have one of those expensive drinks, but they were good!
Not sure I would do it again, but is was fun. Sorry to hear about the fire, hopefully they will rebuild.

Just wondering - did you possibly mean "I could
not imagine this attraction being gone for a long time"?

DC, your talking about Paradise Point. Mountaintop doesn't have a tram.

No - I mean gone - as in not rebuilt - for a longgggggg time. The mountain will be there of course...
