Kid Sunscreen

I know this is a little bit off topic, but am hoping for a wide audience...
My little guy (2 1/2) gets a pin-prick sized raised rash when out in the sun, but only when wearing sunscreen. He's very fair and we've had him out without sunscreen, he burns but doesn't get this rash.
A little bit of research reveals that there are ingredients in certain sunscreens that actually react with sunlight to cause a rash in [typically] photosensitive people. (He's not on any medication that might make him sun sensitive, BTW.)
I am looking for recommendations for good sunscreens for kids, especially from parents whose kids might have had the same reaction as my guy.
Thanks in advance!

This happens to my daughter with most of the spray on sunscreens. Not sure why.
I have used Aveeno baby products -
http://www.aveeno.com/baby/sun_block.js ... /sunblock/ with better luck.
My son gets terrible eczema and this is the only thing we were able to consistently able to use for him last year.
I also plan to try the neutrogena baby block on them when we see the sun again around here. Neutrogena products for the most part work for me and my skin is very sensitive.

The amazing thing is the water there is so restorative that even with his constant dry skin when we came home in August he was a smooth all over as a baby's ... well you know

chickadee--
I'm not a kid but...
I get a reaction and rash when I wear certain make-up products with sunscreen in them-- like lip gloss or liquid make-up (and it seems like everyone is putting sunscreen in everything these days) so I can totally sympathize.
For over the counter stuff I use the Banana Boat Sweat proof water proof and that actually works for me and I don't get any reaction.
The other line of products that I use and don't get any negative reaction are Key West Aloe sunscreen products.
Seriously they are awesome, protect well, are as close to natural as you can get and they have aloe in them.
I love this stuff and can totally recommend it:

Also here's their "story"

What have you been using on your little one??

I don't know how much help I will be - probably not a lot
but I do get/have gotten a rash in the past. I found this product at Big Planet in Mongoose and after reading the info decided to try it - not cheap (approx $30
here) but it is an amazing product - don't know how it will work for you but I thought I would post the info anyway.
Info from their website and a link to the website...........

Jennifer,
I am sure you have thought of this or have them, but high coverage rash guards are so much the way to go...my girls LIVE in them- it will save you so much trouble if you have not been using them.
My girls have long and short sleeve versions (tops) and they have bottoms that are short and also to the knee as well. They just don't get hot in them. Those with a hat cover 75 percent or more of the kid- make life so much easier!

That's a great idea - I thought you would boil in those but when I used mine in Feb (I wasn't even snorkeling just went in for a dip - water was too cool for me but I was sooo hot in the sun so I put it on
) it kept me really cool in the sun with no sunburn once I came back out of the water.

I thought the rash guards would be hot too! Now that I know they aren't I'll think about trying them. Still have to protect his arms, neck, ears and face with sunscreen and a hat (which is something of a challenge to keep on).
The sunscreen we just tossed was the Coppertone Waterbabies. When I started thinking about it, I realized this happens to him all the time. We don't get lots of consecutive sunny days here where the kids are outside, so what seemed like isolated incidents now seem to have all been related.
Thank you for all of the responses, you guys are a great bunch and I have lots of material to work with here.

Jennifer,
I think people might get the rashguards mixed up with the things you scuba in. those are insulated.
the rashguards are actually quite cool when wet.
Here is a GREAT website for kid rashguards and hats. We have many from here...and so do others on the forum.

OK, just double checking on the rashguard thing...
I totally get that the rashguard is cool when you're on the beach and there's refreshing water nearby to dip in,
but
I'm talking about putting one on my kid in the back yard in Wisconsin to play in. It can get pretty warm here in the summer (80's with 90's sometimes). Will the rashguard be too hot for him to play in?

This is a subject near and dear to my heart as I have 3 boys with very fair skin. I would highly recommend the O'Neill Hoodie rash guard and you can find it on the isnorkel. com website. My 2 1/2 year old won't keep a hat on either, but he would keep the hoodie on. I have used these on our past 2 trips to STJ and they worked beautifully.
