A special TR: how we spent our Easter vacation


We worked and worked and worked!


Hubby had 4 holidays after Easter, so we decided to have a mini vacation in our cottage in Boennerup. We had different work, which needed to be done.

We don’t have any garden there, we just try to keep it like the nature. But still there is enough to do.
We need to cut the trees nearly every year to keep the view to the water, and we also try to prevent that the trees grow too big.

So after some days of work there was a lot of wood to be burned.

We also had some firewood near a little place for bonfire, which had been there too long, so we decided to burn it together with the other things. It was my job to fill the wheelbarrow several times to bring it to the fireplace. It was a hard job.

For some years we also have had some planks and lumber, which Hubby wanted to keep, you perhaps know how it is- the stuff is too good just to throw away, and some day you perhaps can use it!! But now ants had attacked it, and the nest was growing and growing. So we had to burn it too. And I can tell you something. It was my job to bring it to the fireplace, and it wasn’t fun.

While I was working with these things, Hubby was building a big woodshed. We have several woodpiles in the plot, which he wants to collect now.

Tuesday after Easter the big fire was started, and it’s an easy way to get rid of tree!

But later our neighbour told us that one of our big oak trees blocked for the sun in his garden. We like to have a nice neighbourhood, so we removed that too.

And a birch, which took a little of our evening sun.

Our tool shed was being too packed, so I started to clean it and throw a lot away- Hubby wasn’t happy about that, and I had to return some of the things again! Also we had some furniture, which we decided to bring to reuse.

The weather was fantastic, sunshine nearly every day, so even though we were very tired every evening, we enjoyed it with great food, Easter beer or wine. And of course our favourite drink- a GTI as a starter.

We went home Friday, because we should take care of our grandchildren in the weekend. The weather was still fantastic, and we had so much fun together with them. But it’s two very lively children, so I had to admit - Sunday evening, we were very tired again!

So that was a TR from our Easter vacation in 2009.

Such beautiful children. Seems like it wasn't a true vacation. Certainly a lot of work. Those ants!!!You must have been exhausted but pleased that you had accomplished so much.

Linne, I'm exhausted just thinking about you and that wheelbarrow! I'm sure you felt a great sense of accomplishment after all of that! You need a relaxing trip back to the V.I.!

Too much of this TR brought memories quickly to mind...I ache for you. The accomplishments are there to be seen and valued as now finished, and the return to the cottage will be so good with none of those tasks on the "to do" list. Now you can relax and enjoy the next visit.
I do hope that the ants did not bite!

That's a TRUE working vacation! It looks like fun to me. I'm in an office all day. I like to be outside doing something physical, especially when afterwards, you can see your progress.

It seems as if you understand that it wasn’t a bad vacation . We worked from about 10 PM to 6 AM every day, but in the evening we were so happy seeing what we have done. And I enjoyed to do my fitness in this way.

And yes, the ants bit. Sometimes I need to do a special antdance, which included that I had to take some cloth of. Although I - as you can see on the pic- did a lot to protect myself some ants succeeded in crawling into my skin.

Wow, that was some vacation you took! We have a mountain property (in Colorado) that we work on as well. It takes a lot of effort just to keep land "natural" doesn't it? Hope you have recuperated!

Adorable children!!! What a ton of work. I hate the process but always love the end of the day when you've been so productive and you can look at all you have accomplished.

But you are one courageous woman! There is NO WAY you could get me to clean out that wood pile, especially after I saw the ants. I have the eeebie jeebies just looking at it! And they were biting too?
I'd revolt.
