I can't get my avatar to load correctly. It says it has to be under 6k. Everytime I shrink a photo to be that small, it ends up being too small to see. Any sugguestions?

What I think you need to do is keep the image the same size, but increase the amount of data compression, which reduces the file size (and the image quality).

On a PC with Windows XP, for instance, you can load the image into Microsoft Photo Editor (found in the Microsoft Office Tools menu), select "save as", set filetype to ".jpg", click on the "more>>" button, and set the "jpg quality factor" lower. Whatever image editing software you're using will have a similar function.

Thanks Bill. I did that and it looked like it was about to work because I got it under 6k and maintained the quality. Then I tried to upload it and it said it had to be 50 pixels
x 50 pixels

I think it only has to be 50x50 pixels if you choose the FIRST of the three avatar choices. You can also choose to serve it off a photo storage website. I just changed mine a couple of days ago and that's what I did.

Previous replies are correct. Place your avitar in an online photo storage site. Then, link to that image. It also works well for trip photos. Some sites are free, others are a yearly charge.

I use Photobucket to host most of my forum photos. I use Shutterfly to upload lo-res photos in albums to share like these:

and hi-res photos to print for myself or make photo books out of.
