I am wondering if I could get some advice on which building/tent cottage offers the best view? My son and girlfriend are going to stay at Maho and would like a nice view. They're young (23 yrs. old) so the steps will not bother them. Also, they are wanting to rent a scooter for the week and am wondering if anyone has heard anything about the scooter rentals on St. John? Thanks everyone!

Fourmichaels, my pesonal favorite at Maho is A14. Here's a thread where I post a map. Here's the view:

As for scooters? Bad idea due to the roads. I would make certain the medical insurance and estate planning were up to date. It's pretty infeasible that two people could ride up the Maho Campground road on a scooter. A 2WD vehicle with good clearance will be needed; 4WD if its wet. Renting a vehicle on St. Thomas, shopping on St. Thomas and taking the barge will save $$ over STJ.

Do you really need a vehicle at Maho? You have three beaches right there, including our two favorites. You can walk to Leinster Bay and Waterlemon Cay on flat roads/trails. There are some of the best trails nearby. Shopping on STT is less of a need with two, since you can pack enough foods in your luggage to feed you for most of a week. So, the real reason to have a vehicle at Maho is to get back to Cruz Bay for nightlife.

Rick,

Thanks so much for the response on maho bay, as far as the scooters, I'm not crazy about it either. Do you know is it 25 to rent a vehicle on St. Thomas as well as St. John? My husband and I will be on St. John at the same time as our son but we will be at Cruz View Condos. I think that he just wanted something to be able to come and go as he pleases. Thanks again.

You can rent from Budget and pay an additional fee for under 25.

We stayed in Studio 5A. Lots of stairs but beautiful views.
