One month and one day to go!!

I would love to do a hike when we are in St John in May. My question is - if you could only do one hike which one would you do?

Thanks for your input!

We loved the Reef Bay Trail hike lead by a Park Service Ranger! You must reserve in advance. You are taken to the trail head on Centerline road and hike (all down hill) past the ruins and petrographs down to the bay. A boat picks you up for a nice ride back to the Park Service office in Cruz Bay. Lots of great information and history. And time for a swim in Reef Bay after the hike makes for a great time. Enjoy

I am with JT on this one!-short and sweet with killer views and a nice stopping point at blue cobblestone beach....

The Johnny Horn is our favorite. From Waterlemon to Coral Bay and back. Maybe add in the cutoff down to Brown Bay. It's definitely a hike rather than a walk. We like to hike. If we didn't, the Johnny Horn would seem like an lot of hard work.

Ram Head may be too warm to be enjoyable for some in May, unless you go very early or late---I prefer to head out about 4 PM, myself. You don't mention your level of comfort with steep hills, heat, etc--or whether you want to walk for one hour or 4?

Ram Head - very early. Hands down. Again, I agree with JT. I have to stop this.

Thanks for all the information - Looks like Rams head gets the most votes - how long is it? We are pretty comfortable will hills, etc. We have a hike here we do at home pretty regularly that is 4 miles.

Hubby loves taking pictures so it sounds like he would enjoy Rams head as well.

Thanks again!

Its about 2 miles RT from Salt Pond. (This doesn't include the walk down to Salt Pond from the parking area).

My favorite is the hike from Little Lameshur to Reef Bay. If you plan to hike on STJ you must pick up a copy of the Trail Bandit map:
http://www.trailbandit.org/bandit.htm

Go in the morning. The hike is #24, #23, and #22 on the map. There are two sets of ruins at Reef Bay Great House and Par Force. Then hike to the Petroglyphs, and the Sugar Factory ruins at Reef bay. Take water and snacks. Hike back to Little Lameshur and enjoy a beautiful remote beach.

Here's a vote for Reef Bay Trail, with or without a guide. One of my favorite moments of our last trip was making it to the beach at the end of the trail and being the only ones there.

I usually do a forum search for a topic before I post and then use relevant posts and piggyback off of the existing info in the old posts...just sayin...

I'm thinking our family hikes in June will be:
Lind point to Salomon/Honeymoon
Johnny Horn (partial) up above Leinster/Waterlemon
Moravian Church to Base Hill spur trail to the summit of base hill
...and maybe Ram Head

Anyone have experience with the Base Hill spur trail...and summit, maybe photos from up there??
I think this is one....http://www.panoramio.com/photo/71525047
