iMovie help anyone??

I have spent about 4 hours making a wonderful iMovie project of our recent STJ trip. Had the music, photos, videos, transitions, titles, timing, EVERYTHING just right. It was 11 minutes long and fabulous (to me
), and now it's gone!!!!! I watched it through one last time to make sure it was just right, closed iMovie and went into iDVD to make the DVD and when I went to import the iMovie project it wasn't there!!!! UGHHHH!
It just appears as a blank folder in iMovie now -with no photos/videos/music in the file. I have searched online all evening and have found what is probably the issue. I named it "March 2009 St. John" and the Apple website does state that if a project name has a period followed by a space the project may be converted to a folder instead and iMovie will be unable to open it!!! Then why does it even let me name it that????? The solution according to Apple: "Don't use periods in your project name." Thanks - that helps a ton now.
There is a random "Project" text file on my hard drive now that I think is related to the iMovie file, but I don't know what to do with it.
Sorry for rambling... does anyone have any experience with this or any advice?
Thanks.
