We have only 6 days on St. John, our first trip. I have never snorkeled before but have my gear and will be heading to a pool to start teaching myself to snorkel. Would you spend a whole day or 1/2 day with Capt. Phil?
I emailed him yesterday to make reservations and he suggested we consider a full day trip.
What do you think?

My suggestion is a full day. It would seem like you just get started & then have to go back with a half day. We have him booked for a full day in May also...can't wait!

I would go for the full day. We have been out with him twice & it is a great snorkel trip. We are planning on going again when we are there in August.

A full Day on Wayward Sailor will be one of the best investments of your time you could ever make - do it before you attempt the kayaking trip for sure!, and learn from Captain Phil all you can about snorkeling, sea conditions and wind and current - he is one of the deepest founts of info available on the island of STJ.

Definitely the full day. We did a full day Jost Van Dyke last summer with Capt. Phil and Tarn. He is an a wealth of information and a great teacher. He will stay right with you while you snorkle. He made Jost so much fun, took us behind Foxy's to walk the road with family houses and the bakery is not to be missed - awesome cookies! Have fun!

That's what I was going to say...we used a different guide, but each daysail we have been on has been a full day, and it never seems long enough..Time flies when your having rum!

I would definitely book the full day sail. We did the full day sail and I did not think it was long enough! Since you are new to snorkeling you will find this trip very rewarding. He is so good at teaching you how to spot things underwater. I finally found my first octopus a couple of days after our sail with Captain Phil. I never would have noticed it if it had not been for the tricks he showed me (it was hiding completely inside a conch shell that was lying on the turtle grass off Scott Beach).

You will love it!

Did the full day with Capt Phil for my first "real" attempt at snorkeling. I was afraid of deep water and he was really good about calming me down. We went to Jost and had lunch (at least my husband did, my stomach was too queasy!) and did the walk around. He was really nice about helping me learn. You'll have fun!

OK then. Full day it is! I wondered if it was "too much time off island." You answered that question quite succinctly!
Yikes I'm getting soooo excited! I'm coming up with millions of questions now.
