I don't know if it goes bad, but I do know that it doesn't age in the bottle, only in the barrel.

If it was closed and stored okay (preferably dark and dry) it should be fine -
How does it taste?

Once a bottle of booze is opened, it can go bad, but it takes quite awhile.
I once bought a bottle of scotch for a housewarming party I threw. It got opened and I put it in the back of the shelf and forgot about it since I hate scotch. About 12 years later I looked at it and it had separated into two distinct layers and smelled like varnish.
Can't speak for rum specifically, but I would assume the same thing could happen. It also probably depends on how good the seal is (cork vs. screw on cap).

I've been told that I sometimes "go bad" after drinking rum.
