so tomorrow my 12 yr old is having a bunch of like minded giggly girls over for a "dvd release' party for twilight. i have red drinks (cranberry juice, shirley temples, etc)
thought we'd serve red velvet cake for dessert--
we'll make popcorn (it will be popcorn colored--some things should not be messed with)
but would like any other creative suggestions...

No ideas but it should like so much fun!! I have friends, who are my age, who tell me to read the book. It sounds really good!!

You can dye the popcorn if you make popcorn balls!

I have to go to bed, like, RIGHT NOW, but one of my friends did a twilight party for her pre-teen group last week. Here are some of the things she did...let me know if any are appealing I will check back tomorrow and get the recipes if so.

Coolest thing she did was buy some of that stuff you use to make candied apples--that red sugary stuff--she melted it, and then dipped glasses in it and let the candy run down the outside, so it looked like blood. Then made a (red) fruit punch drink to fill the glasses. Vampire blood!

White sugar cookies layered and filled with raspberry jam--so much jam that it bled through the dough to make red splotches on the outside= vampire bites

They also had "wolf kibble" which was basically caramel popcorn with chocolate. Not sure on the meaning of that--haven't read the books yet.

My daughter went to a Twilight movie night last week. Sometime during the party (after pizza, before movie, I think) they played Left Right Center and the last 4 still in the game brought home some prizes. My DD came home with glow in the dark fangs and a Twilight poster.

It would also be fun to do a trivia contest. Pick out some less obvious details from the book, and about the actors too (like stuff from other movies they have been in) and have some kind of little prize for the winner. Could be small like the plastic fangs or candy, or easy like a $5 iTunes card.

My DD has braces. I think they had some kind of cupcake with red frosting, or white frosting with drizzles of red cake decorating gel on it. She's asleep right now but if she has any good tips tomorrow I'll let you know!

I just remembered this because I saw it on the kitchen island this morning...

Each girl got a CD with the movie soundtrack. The party parents printed off the the movie promo picture and inserted it into the CD cases. Very cool, a bit time consuming depending on how many girls will be there.

I have nothing to add here other than that I read the thread because the topic confused me. Then, I realized that I not only have one daughter, but I have another one cooking.

Then I put my head on my desk and sobbed a bit when I thought out the next 20 years of my life.

Girls...I live in a house of girls.

I need to learn a lot in the next few years.

Sometimes I think "Girls are soooo easy!" They can hang out and laugh and talk without shaking the house to the rafters. Other times I look at my son, who will stay outside for hours with his buddies playing ball in the mud or whatever, and I'll think "boys are soooo easy!" Sometimes, of course, both of them can baffle me completely.

On rare occassions I think I've figured the parenting thing out. In one of those weak moments I agreed that we could get a dog. Now I'm in for a whole new world of trying to figure out yet another creature - I know nothing about dogs. I'll probably look at that dang dog and think "kids are soooo easy!"

Hmmm let's see,

A can of hair & body sparkle spray. Party store or beauty supply.
Vampire bite marks with temp tatoos or pasty complextions with white face paint & powder.
We had lots of fun making T's & tanks with Twilight verbage. We did fabric paint & vinyl lettering.
Have them bring their dress-up dance/prom attire

BTW, I have one of each sex chromozone. According to my on the job training, boys are much, much easier and less expensive to dress, intertain, etc.

Don't feel bad pip, look on the bright side, my female child has always been about being a daddy's girl.

pip--yeah, you're in for it--Dads get it in spades with the girls.....

Chicagoans.--i have always thought that the girls take up alot more mental energy, the boys alot more physical energy (at least when they are young--
for now at least, my son has never done the eyeroll at me! at least not yet
