Hi,
I am going to travel to France this summer and would like to simplify my camera and it's various lenses. I'd like to go with only one, in the interest of keeping the weight of my bags down. Does anyone have a recommendation.....which lens could you not travel without?
Thanks!

For my Rebel, here are my favorites and what they are my favorites for. The lens that works best for you might be different than what works for me when choosing "just one" depending on what you like to shoot.
Canon EF 70-200 mm F4L IS USM - great for wildlife and people watching (i.e., taking photos of strangers when you don't want them to know.....)
Canon Zoom Super Wide Angle EF 17-40mm f/4L USM - great for landscapes (particularly with the addition of a B+W circular polarizing filter) - my personal favorite and the one I tend to pick when I only carry one
Canon Zoom Super Wide Angle EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM - great for landscapes but I notice the quality difference between it and the L series lenses
Canon Zoom Wide Angle-Telephoto EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM - Probably the best general purpose lens for a variety of situations
Several forumites can offer some pretty good lens advice. Have fun lens shopping!

Point, shoot and hope for the best here, but...
my son has studied photography and swears by his 17-40mm lens...the same one Vicki uses...he also prefers it as his main lens when out and about. Lucky you...enjoy France!

Currently I own the 18-55mm, plus a 75-300 zoom. We leave for St John this weekend, and for that trip I'll take both lenses. I'd like to have something else before the France trip in May, a wider angle probably.
