On Getting Too Close

Spotted this fine fellow on the north shore.

He spotted me too.

Image

A kestrel!

Nature's smallest bird of prey.

Rarely seen on St. John, but definitely not a stranger to the island.

Joshie stepped closer.

The kestrel cocked his head.

I edged closer still.

Such a pretty bird.

Just a few more steps...

Alas, too close.

Like that, the kestrel was gone.

Peace.

how nice, I LOVE birdwatching. Thanks for a great desktop background. It's exciting waiting to see what you are posting. I gotta admit, at first the Oprah thing, Joshie, freaked me out, but you are so darn interesting and fun. We would all love to meet you I'm sure. Come on - do tell !!! (I didn't miss a post with your true identity did I??) I know - here's a fun idea - how about "A Clue Per Day" contest!!! A framed Joshie original as the prize!! How about it??

Maybe Joshie could save up all his tips from The Banana Deck and publish "Joshie's Coffee Table Book of St. John Birds".

How many folks will be heading to the Banana Deck to perhaps find Joshie now? (even though he may not even work on island at all) Kind of like "Where's Waldo?"

New forum T-shirt..."Where's Joshie"?

Nice photos...again. Very enjoyable.

Joshie - I sense a theme here. Always the elusive one.

Joshie,

Once again GREAT pics! We stayed at Argonauta last summer and Lisa with Vacation Vistas told us about the kestrel that hangs around the villa and about 5 minutes later we got our first glimpse of it!

It was awesome to watch throughout our stay. I even have a video I took from about 10 feet away of it eating something on our deck!

Your pics brought back so many good memories! Thanks!

Joshie, correct me if I am wrong, but are you taking these pictures with a disposable camera?? Surely not. If so, I am ditching my camera.
