SJ - Ella is doing great! Thanks for asking. And her brother Jack has been a great big brother - he keeps her entertained!

As for the WBC...Yes, Youkilis and Pedroia are really puttin' a hurtin' on the Socialists  ...I am loving it. You think Jeter would trade Cano for Pedroia like, yesterday?

Go Heels indeed! As a UNC alum and a native North Carolinian, I am excited to see that we soundly defeated Dook both times during this regular season.

Up next, ACC tourney.

As a UConn fan living in Raleigh, I was sad to see the Huskies lose on Saturday, but a little engorged to see NC beat Duke. I may not like NC, but I hate Duke.

My productivity during the work day stops at Noon tomorrow when the Big East tips off. This will be either my 6th or 7th year in a row not making it to the Big East Tournament...after making it all but 3 years from 1990 - 2002.

I went to the tourniment for a few years but one of the best memories of the Big East Tourny was me and Grant Hill watching the opening game in the Westin bar Mich. Ave in Chicago. Tip off was around 11:30 am local time. My RAC experiences have been nothing but great, and I go back to the A10 days. I have two words for ya - Dance Squad.
Went to RU...class of 1996. I was there for A-10 days...and Big East days too. RU Hoops was awful when I was there and remain awful. We used to sit in the front row behind the basket and act like idiots. My father would watch games on NJN and wonder why he was paying tuition.

Dance Squad: A girl on the team lived on the same floor as me Freshman year. Sweet girl, quite pretty...oh so dumb.

Yeah Pip - As UConn fans, it's kind of in our blood to hate Duke. This goes back to 1990, when Christian Leattner beat UConn in the East Regional Final with a buzzer beater...If Tate George only could've saved that loose ball before it went out of bounds! Most people forget that was Laettner's first "big" shot in a college career filled with them. UConn would've gone to their first Final Four had they won that game...Instead, it took them 9 more years!

That made beating that favored Duke team in the 1999 NCAA Final all the sweeter!

Of course they also met in the Final Four (National Semi-Finals)...A minor bump in the road on the way to UConn's second National Championship.

I believe Duke has not beaten UConn since 1991. Uconn won regular season games in 1994 and the Fall of 1999 (after having just beaten Duke in the Championship in the spring of 99). Other than the game in the 2004 Final Four, I don't believe they've played each other this decade. Still, a pretty impressive out of conference rivalry forged by Calhoun and Coach K.

Go Huskies.

Ahh…March Madness.
Now the pundits have all been raving about the top to bottom strength of the Big East. I get worried when I hear those kinds of platitudes. Will that form hold in the tournament?
Pitt looks like the beast of the east to me. Blair is in Thabeets head. Louisville always seems to have great guard play, which seems to be important come the big dance. Nova looks tough and I’ve seen Marquette play a few times and they seem like pretenders to me.
And I haven’t seen UConn much – my sense is that they’ve been inconsistent i.e. can’t tell which team will show up – is that correct?
Historically, the Big East has done well in the tournament, the Big Ten chokes, the ACC isn’t as deep as they think, and the Pac 10 and some mid-majors sneak up on everybody. And hasn’t the A10 done well lately?
And will this finally be the year when CBS gets better at switching in and out of games when they should and they get rid of Billy Packer for the big games?

Yeah J - I believe this will be the first year in the last 25 or so that Billy is NOT doing the Final Four...That to me is good news...He always struck me an a cranky old fella. Love Jim Nance though...Not sure who'll be doing the color...I heard Francesca talking about it awhile back, but can't remember who he said...I think Dickie V (kidding!!!!!!!!!).

As for UCONN...I have no interest in seeing Pitt again. Blair is an absolute stud, and I think he project to be actually a better version of Elton Brand in the NBA (he's tough!). Thabeet actually put a whoopin on Blair during the first half last weekend - but really didn't show up for the final 8 minutes. As for inconsistency - they lost their best perimeter defender when they lost Jerome Dyson for the year...He's also a kid who can score the ball. Now the freshman phenom Kemba Walker has been forced into more minutes - and he has for the most part delivered. Still, the loss of Dyson really, really hurts. Even with all that, they've lost 3 games in what most experts will tell you is far and away the best conference in the country. They lost once to Georgetown early on, then twice to Pitt.

My fear with UConn is that they really don't have that classic 2-guard as in years past. A guy who can hit a big three when you need one...It is always Price taking that shot. He's a great player, but I'd rather see a guy like Rashad Anderson taking that shot...That guy was money.

This UConn team has lost only one game on the road all season (last sat at Pitt), which usually bodes well for a good run in March...They won in places like Louisville, out in Seattle vs. Gonzaga, at Marquette, at West Virginia (which traditionally is one of the more difficult venues to win in in the BE), at Notre Dame...Good wins on the road.

Should be a great March.
